On Justice Arun Mishra, Land Acquisition Act and Reliance.
Solicitor General misinforms the SC. Our story on the dubious episode was published on April 24, 2019. Not 2-3 days ago. It is factual based on documents on record. We, the authors, stand by every word of it.
Here is the specific story @Kum_Sambhav and I authored: business-standard.com/article/econom…
Here is a thread on the story to understand it quickly. The full story is behind a paywall:
Here is a thread on the full series we did on Land Acquisition Law and the murky role of Central & State governments as well as the Supreme Court in this matter:
It is our duty, not just our job, as journalists to bring facts to light. And, to highlight them repeatedly when the story becomes pertinent over time. This is what journalism is meant to do: Bring facts to the citizens, help them make informed opinion.
We do not write stories to fit narratives or timed strategies of either the government or anyone else. We shine light on facts when they ought to be highlighted. Should we be highlighting the facts of the case two years from now or now when the sordid episode is taking place?
The Constitution of India does not allow any part of the executive or the judiciary to be given an undemocratic protection from public scrutiny and legitimate criticism, leave alone from legitimate journalistic reportage.
Both the executive and the judiciary needs to remember, they serve the citizens of the country. Not the other way round.
Neither our intent nor our purpose is to malign anyone. But to bring out facts as they stand, whoever or whatever institutions they may involve. End.
