Our first speaker, Tatiana Țîbuleac, always believed in healing from the inside. “My story is a wound that took three generations to heal.” #Story19
Her grandmother would always make up stories to tell her - neither happy, nor sad, always connected to some part of reality (neighbors, animals, familiar places). "She was preparing me for the real story." #story19
It's called "the story of the needle" which is now hanging on a wall in her family home. It's a needle her grandmother took with her when the family was deported to a gulag in the 1940s. "The needle was needed and somehow it brought them together. It was their story." #story19
When Tatiana started working as a journalist and moved to Paris, the story of the needle felt too provincial and far away. She wrote other people’s stories and when her mother asked her why she wasn’t writing about the needle, the question stuck with her. #story19
“Why can’t I write a book about the needle? I didn’t find in me the language of revenge. I don’t want to write a book like a gun, I want to write a book like a hug. If I am to transmit something, I want to do justice to that story.” #story19
Tatiana Țîbuleac says she will come to that story in her own time. She concludes with some advice: talk to your parents and grandparents. If you don’t know their stories, you will feel incomplete. #story19
