@MFaleafa Le Va provides national programmes for New Zealand in suicide prevention, mental health and addiction workforce development, violence prevention, mental health promotion, disability support services, public health, cultural competency training and holistic wellbeing.

Compared to the general population Pasifika people suffer disproportionately from health and mental health issues. We can build a fence at the top of the cliff rather than have an ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.
Monique talks about the children of the migration and the overlap between Traditional Pasifika paradigm and the Western paradigm. This overlap can been seen in a positive light and bring valuable skills over time.
This overlap can bring higher cultural intelligence and is valuable to employers. Can our libraries learn to navigate these two worlds like our young people.?

Trusted relationships are paramount - library staff can be self reflective about their identity and practice.
Le Va is about the space in between things. Traditionally, for Pasifika people, sacred relationships exist between people, as well as between people and the environment, ancestors and the heavens.
La Va created a free app auntydee.co.nz/about to help youth with depression. Aunty Dee is a free online tool for anyone who needs some help working through a problem or problems. It doesn’t matter what the problem is, you can use Aunty Dee to help you work it through.
The app is being used equally by Pasifika and non Pasifika alike.
