Mississippi Congressman Steven Palazzo knows this tweet is a lie.

This past week, @CongPalazzo cast 18 votes (10 yeas, 8 nays), vs 11 votes in the week *before* the inquiry began—as his own website shows: palazzo.house.gov/voterecord/?Pa… #MSCong
Additionally: Congress has passed more than 400 bills this year so far. Congressman Palazzo voted for many of them, and also denounced quite a few of them. @CongPalazzo opposed the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization the House passed, for example.

Additionally, @CongPalazzo also voted against the Equality Act, which would include LGBT people in the 1964 Civil Rights Act, giving same protections for race, gender, religion, & nat'l origin. He called it an "invasive threat to our religious liberties."

To be sure, most bills the House passed have not become law. Since Democrats took over the House, GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed to be the "grim reaper" of legislation, blocking about 300 of those bills in the Senate & leaving them to die.

On transparency: @CongPalazzo won't hold public town halls, saying he shouldn't be subjected to angry yelling mobs.

Pics: The Tea Party invited him to a townhall in 2013 (L) & liberals invited him to one in 2017. (R), each outside his office. Both protested when he didn't show.
Since his election in 2010, Palazzo has refused to participate in debates w opponents, like @jerameyanderson in 2018.

The longtime Dem rep he beat, @GeneTaylor4MS, held multiple town halls in 2010 & debated Palazzo. He debated a libertarian when Palazzo didn't show for a debate.
Here's what Palazzo said when asked why he won't hold public townhalls. He claimed it was about not wanting to deal with Dems angry over Trump. But he hasn't held a town hall since 2012, as the Republican who wrote this noted.

As a journalist, I'm big on access and public hearings.

But I'm glad these impeachment & SCIF hearings are private for now. Why?

Because opening statements aside, the public profitted little from the televised partisan hack shows with the Cohen, Comey and Mueller hearings.

Most Republicans refused to engage with the substance of the witnesses, dangling political whataboutisms, treated the witnesses like they were the ones being investigated, & kept bringing up Hillary, Hillary, Hillary.

And Dems? Not great either overall. 2/
Most Dems in previous televised hearings were too worried about scoring political points with their base by appearing tough and trying to have a singular heroic "Aha!" moment they could run in ads—rather than following one another up with a coherent, surgical approach. 3/

For those of you who may be wondering, how did S.C. District 1 lose a “red” Congressional seat. Perhaps this may help. District 1 makes up 5 counties. Going into the race we already knew that Charleston normally votes Democrat. Even in 2016 General Election they voted Clinton.
For @JoeCunninghamSC to win the race against @karringtonsc he would have to win Charleston County. To correct the out of staters and trolls he ONLY won Charleston County. He did NOT win Beaufort or Berkeley as people keep stating incorrectly on social media.
Despite @JoeCunninghamSC claims of “Not taking a dime of PAC money” what he neglected to tell his supporters is that he did in FACT have support and help. For example moveon. .Org (misspelling on purpose) made text messages to R’s in S.C. Joe was also a part of “flip red to blue”

1. Founding Father Ben Franklin was asked at the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, “Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”
2. To which he replied, “A Republic, if you can keep it.” He well knew that the Constitution was expressly written to bind the hands of those in government in order to keep the potential for tyranny out the hands of a few and carefully controlled by an informed citizenry.
3. He and the other Founders also well understood Lord Acton’s famous remark, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” They witnessed the consequences directly in English King George III’s tyranny.
