Remember when folks took @HillaryClinton's "deplorables" comment out of context, insisted on pretending like it referred to the majority of Trump voters, & acted like it was the worst thing ever said?

Here's the WH press secretary calling a huge chunk of Americans "human scum."

On transparency: @CongPalazzo won't hold public town halls, saying he shouldn't be subjected to angry yelling mobs.

Pics: The Tea Party invited him to a townhall in 2013 (L) & liberals invited him to one in 2017. (R), each outside his office. Both protested when he didn't show.
Since his election in 2010, Palazzo has refused to participate in debates w opponents, like @jerameyanderson in 2018.

The longtime Dem rep he beat, @GeneTaylor4MS, held multiple town halls in 2010 & debated Palazzo. He debated a libertarian when Palazzo didn't show for a debate.
Here's what Palazzo said when asked why he won't hold public townhalls. He claimed it was about not wanting to deal with Dems angry over Trump. But he hasn't held a town hall since 2012, as the Republican who wrote this noted.

Mississippi Congressman Steven Palazzo knows this tweet is a lie.

This past week, @CongPalazzo cast 18 votes (10 yeas, 8 nays), vs 11 votes in the week *before* the inquiry began—as his own website shows: palazzo.house.gov/voterecord/?Pa… #MSCong
Additionally: Congress has passed more than 400 bills this year so far. Congressman Palazzo voted for many of them, and also denounced quite a few of them. @CongPalazzo opposed the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization the House passed, for example.

As a journalist, I'm big on access and public hearings.

But I'm glad these impeachment & SCIF hearings are private for now. Why?

Because opening statements aside, the public profitted little from the televised partisan hack shows with the Cohen, Comey and Mueller hearings.

Most Republicans refused to engage with the substance of the witnesses, dangling political whataboutisms, treated the witnesses like they were the ones being investigated, & kept bringing up Hillary, Hillary, Hillary.

And Dems? Not great either overall. 2/
Most Dems in previous televised hearings were too worried about scoring political points with their base by appearing tough and trying to have a singular heroic "Aha!" moment they could run in ads—rather than following one another up with a coherent, surgical approach. 3/

You dont have to be a leftist/socialist to be against American interventionism in any sovereign state. The media is painting the events in #Venezuela as an “anti-socialism” struggle so the #Trump voters will get behind it when it’s a matter of the US meddling in foreign affairs.
