This Times article on rising mortality had me thinking about regional disparities. It's true that rising mortality is widespread, but the article also acknowledges that mortality in coastal metros has improved 1/ nytimes.com/2019/11/26/hea…
So I did some comparisons using the KFF health system tracker healthsystemtracker.org/chart-collecti… and a JAMA article on life expectancy by state in 1990 and 2016 2/ jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…
What we see is another red-blue divide. Compare population-weighted averages for states that supported Clinton and Trump in 2016, and you see very different trends 3/

I was struck by one line in this article: "Life expectancy in the coastal metro areas — both east and west — has improved at roughly the same rate as in Canada." Indeed, the American death trip has been driven by only part of the country 1/ nytimes.com/2019/11/26/hea…
And while the divergence is surely linked to growing regional economic disparities, there's a pretty clear red-blue divide reflecting state policies. Consider NY v. TX 2/ jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…
In 1990 Texas actually had higher life expectancy, but now NY is far ahead. Surely this has something to do with expanding health coverage, maybe also to do with environmental policies. 3/

Hello from a rainy and cold Des Moines, Iowa. One of the biggest events in Democrat 2020 calendar here tonight. The Jefferson-Jackson dinner (now renamed). Candidates get 10 mins to make their pitch, without notes. Iowa is first state to vote in just 3months. So v important.
Happening in the Wells Fargo arena, the biggest indoor one in Iowa. 13,000+ expected to attend. It’s theoretically a fundraiser but more a massive chance for Dem presidential hopefuls to make their pitch directly to those who’ll decide their fate in state 1.
Beto signs are plastered outside the arena. He was due to speak alongside 13 other candidates before his sudden withdrawal from race 90 mins ago. Am told supporters are in the process of taking them down.

Ugh. Here's my name w/Jeffrey Epstein, on Edge org, which I contributed to when John Brockman—Epstein pal—was my lit agent. Epstein's name is off Edge, but shows up cached. Till I die I'll be making for my damn youth, misspent w/many bad-vibe gents & not asking enough questions.
Basically IME you didn't have to be a desperate runaway, just a single mom trying to make a living in NYC, to fall in, even peripherally, with this crowd, which had money, power, connections and could sell books. Mea culpa. Trying to have compassion for my confused self of 2009.
Flashback: Brockman saying he didn't publicize his conferences b/c he'd have to invite female intellectuals. One of the roles of the women writers in this orbit was to defer to their galaxy brains & need to be overmen animals w/their teen or imported "dates."

1) Jerry Maston, pastor of ROL church in Eastland TX, bro-in-law to Farris Wilks, friend of Rep Mike Lang HD60, & speaking companion to Rafael Cruz is pictured here. He preaches dominionism at his Christian Values Summit events. Maston conducted a CVS right here in Granbury.
2) Recently Maston crowed about his trip to Romania for a Christian Values Summit. Bragged abt having support of the Romanian Minister of Defense for the event. Here’s a photo of those involved in his most recent event/trip over.
3) The Romanian man who helped organize Maston’s CVS event, Avram Gal, also had photos on his New Life Int’l Evangelical Assoc. website. After the event, he apparently made a trip to the states and visited with Maston among others.

I hope people realize I'm still getting harassment and death threats because someone asked me a question about a video game on tumblr back in 2013 or so and I answered it honestly.
Not only that, I get another wave of it every single time anyone writes an article about that particular game, since the developer decided I was somehow, uh, "attacking"....someone or something by answering a history question.
Someone asked me if the devs had a choice about choosing to include the option of brown or Black people existing in a medieval-style game that boasted about its character creation tool being "the most advanced" ever to exist; I said of course they could have, but chose not to.
