TODO doesn’t mean you actually intend to do something. It’s a marker for the next person that the logic was left unfinished and they shouldn’t be surprised by missing corner cases or strange code structure.

Will it motivate the next person to fix it? Of course not. TODO is an admission that the current code is good enough for practical purposes. If it weren’t you would have fixed it.

When you have an imperative API, where to put configuration is a no-brainer. Just stuff it right into the call!

$(div).toggleClass('active').fadeIn(500);
When you move to a declarative API, many imperative callsites turn into one.

You used to call $(div).toggleClass('active') in ten places, but now you setActive(!active) instead, and have one place that says:

<div className={active ? 'active' : null} />

Cool.
This helps separate the intent (“I want to change whether it’s active”) from implementation details (“when it’s active, we want this particular UI output”). Yay for separation of concerns.

Quick tips for those who want to pursue a good career in Computer Science:
Don't:
1. Get dragged away by ML, Data Science, AI and hype around it.
2. Blindly "ctrl+c" your codes --> (Understand, code, rinse, repeat)
3. Follow others

Do:
1. Focus on Data Structures, Algos, Operating Systems and DBMS throughout 4 years.(ML and AI you can do once you are in your dream company)
2, Two decent projects and two academic research papers (IEEE is preferred)
3. One handy internship
4. Ignore college shit

Somehow get into a decent product based company or focus on getting a dream masters in CS admit.
Google/Amaz/MSFT etc..
MIT/Stanford/TAMU/UPenn etc..

The linked paper above is one older perspective. It was written just as the age of networking was beginning and published two years before the advent of Smalltalk-80 that brought in a new paradigm of Object Oriented Programming were objects communicate via passing of messages.
Functional Programming makes rather massive claims that it is somehow fundamentally different than the procedural programming that came before it. Both are based upon functions calling other functions with the passing of arguments as in Lambda Calculus mathematics. 🤔 Not new.

I think I figured out why coding interviews stress me out so much

my natural mode of problem-solving is very exploratory & experimental, testing ideas & building up

but interviews feel like you have to KNOW the right approach right away & execute perfectly on the first try
I see a question and part of me is like "oh this is an interesting problem!" and starts to move around ideas in my head, turn them around & investigate

the rest of me is like "THERE'S NO TIME FOR THIS you need to pick something and do it but all your ideas are NOT GOOD ENOUGH"
like a lot of times I need to work out the brute force approach to figure out the shape of the problem & identify where I can be clever and write a better solution

but it doesn't feel like there's actually time for that in an hour? either you know better or you don't
