I am attempting to track all elections tonight in Georgia cities that, as of the most recent Census estimates, had at least 7,000 people. I probably won't have all the results tonight, but here's my spreadsheet. #gapol docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
I plan to add county special elections and HD 152 later.
speaking of which, I predict that Republicans will hold HD 152 (not a hard call!)
I also have a text file where I'm compiling links to election results: drive.google.com/open?id=1In6c0…
a couple places are reporting some results wgxa.tv/resources/ftpt…
No one is over 50% in any Johns Creek race, and post 6's three candidates are all within 10% of each other results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/Fulton/9888…
It appears all three candidates backed by Indivisible GA-11 have won in Canton, including one candidate whose opponent was an incumbent. @IndivisibleGA11
@IndivisibleGA11 Morrow, in Clayton County, voted 379 to 338 against allowing alcohol sales during brunch hours on Sunday. This may be the first time such a referendum has failed in Georgia. results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/Clayton/988…
@IndivisibleGA11 Results are beginning to trickle in in Savannah… results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/Chatham/988…
@IndivisibleGA11 I hope Election Day voting in Smyrna is bluer than advance voting. The advance voting there is not looking good (which is not super-surprising). Of particular concern: Maryline Blackburn, the city's first black councilperson, is down by 20%. results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/Cobb/98888/…
@IndivisibleGA11 Results are in in the Washington County's sheriff race. Joel Cochran, who is white, took 53% of the vote. Kelly Brooks, who is black, took 45%, and Michael “Blk Mike” Johnson (who is black) took 2%. All candidates ran as Democrats. wgxa.tv/resources/ftpt…
@IndivisibleGA11 Not clear if this is final, but it looks like Dalton mayor Dennis Mock has lost reelection to David Pennington III, a former mayor of Dalton, by 11 votes out of nearly 2800. whitfieldcountyga.com/boe/results-1.…
@IndivisibleGA11 In Smyrna's mayoral race, Ryan Campbell (@RyanForSmyrna) won 25% and will advance to a runoff against Derek Norton, who won 47%. The odds are not as steep as they sound – Norton was the only major white candidate, while Campbell was one of two major black candidates.
@IndivisibleGA11 @RyanForSmyrna In Watkinsville, former state Rep. Bob Smith (R) leads incumbent mayor Dave Shearon by 2 votes, 402-400. There is one write-in. I don't know if there are any provisionals, but I hope there are. Smith is not good.

Shearon is the city's first openly gay mayor.
@IndivisibleGA11 @RyanForSmyrna With 52 of 55 precincts reporting in Savannah, Van Johnson (D) leads incumbent mayor Eddie DeLoach (R) 46.6% to 38.8%. Regina Thomas takes almost all of the remainder. A runoff is pretty much guaranteed.
@IndivisibleGA11 @RyanForSmyrna Incumbent at-large Savannah alder[woman] Carol Bell is losing to Kesha Gibson Carter by 3% (it's a two-way race). Bell outspent Carter almost 4-1 in Q3. This would definitely be an upset. (Both candidates are black women.) results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/Chatham/988…
@IndivisibleGA11 @RyanForSmyrna In Savannah's 6th aldermanic district, controversial/bombastic/racist incumbent Tony Thomas leads Kurtis Purtee 46.3%-39.2%.
@IndivisibleGA11 @RyanForSmyrna Turns out Smyrna wasn't done reporting. Not much changed citywide, but now Maryline Blackburn is down only 6%. Still not a good result.
@IndivisibleGA11 @RyanForSmyrna DeKalb has produced a one thousand, seven hundred and sixty-three (1,763) page precinct report where the vast majority of rows are superfluous. The county presumably has no plans to offer another format of precinct results. dekalbcountyga.gov/sites/default/…
Every precinct in this report has empty “AIP 2” and “AIP 3” categories which will not be used, as the actual absentee turnout is already covered by AIP 1 and ABM. The report is 1,090 pages longer than the comparable report last year. Incredible.
There has to be a way to automate processing these…
Anyway, the DeKalb ethics referendum that seemingly no one supported went down 39%-61%.
Replying on my phone to break the web glitch involving threads and Twitter handles. That is the only reason for this tweet.
In some Georgia municipalities, you can win with a plurality. McDonough is one such municipality. That means Benjamin Pruett, who is white, will return to the council despite winning fewer votes than the total of his two black opponents. elections.co.henry.ga.us/county.aspx?p=…
Stockbridge: incumbent John Blount is re-elected, and Yolanda Barber joins the council. Either Elton Alexander or Neat Robinson will take the third seat – both are incumbents. elections.co.henry.ga.us/county.aspx?p=…
In Smithville (population ~600), Vincent V. Cutts appears to have unseated incumbent mayor Jack Smith. My understanding is that Cutts is black and Smith is white. The third candidate, Ja'Lia Taylor, is black.

This small city in Lee County gave Abrams about 65% of the vote.
Social Circle, GA (Walton County, near Newton County) voted out its incumbent mayor and both of the school board members who were up for reelection. It did reelect two council incumbents, but one was unopposed.
In Albany, incumbent mayor Dorothy Hubbard and Bo Dorough lead (there will be a runoff). Ward IV's Roger Marietta trails his challenger by 20 votes out of almost 3,000. walb.com/2019/11/05/ele…
Marietta and his opponent, Chad Warbington, are both white, but Warbington is a Republican from what I can tell, whereas Marietta has some Dem connections. Abrams won Ward IV with about 70% of the vote (which actually means it was one of her worst wards in the city).
Savannah: Bill Durrence lost to Detric Leggett, 58-42. Leggett is a black Democrat. Durrence, who claims no party affiliation, is a white conservative who was swept into office in the 2015 DeLoach wave, defeating longtime incumbent Mary Osborne, who is black, easily.
If DeLoach loses the runoff, every candidate endorsed by the Savannah Morning News will have lost. Amazing.
Johnson won a handful of precincts lost by former Mayor Edna Jackson in both rounds of the 2015 election, which she lost to DeLoach. It doesn't look like DeLoach won any new precincts.
Meanwhile in Dunwoody, Lynn Deutsch (a Democrat) defeated Terry Nall (a Republican) to win the mayorship. They were both council incumbents. Partisanship was not a major topic in the race, though.
Valdosta: Fire chief J.D. Rice (Dem, black) and insurance agent/onetime councilman David Sumner (Rep, white) advance to a runoff for mayor. Rice won 37.6%; Sumner edged Scott James Matheson (Rep, white) 23.2% to 22.3% for second. Kevin J. Bussey (Dem, black) got 15.2%.
Valdosta's current mayor is white but he is retiring.
In Hoschton, Shantwon Astin and Adam Ledbetter easily outpaced an incumbent for council. It's a top-two election, so they both win.

Hoschton mayor Theresa Kenerly made national news in May when she said the city “isn't ready” for a black administrator.

Shantwon Astin is black. Shantwon Astin: 233 votes
Mindi Kiewert (incumbent): 129 votes
Adam Ledbetter: 236 votes
Write-ins: 3 votes
In Eatonton, former mayor John Reid, a black Democrat, appears to have defeated Rebecca Rocker, a white Republican whose husband is the current mayor. My 2018 estimates indicate that Kemp received 849 votes to Abrams's 1,203.
I meant to predict this in advance but I think I forgot to do so.
House district 145 includes a significant part of Eatonton. It's a Baldwin County-based swing district currently held by Ricky Williams (R).
Acworth, a Trump→Abrams city in northwest Cobb, held its first election in several years. Two white incumbents easily defeated black challengers, 70-30. mdjonline.com/elections/nort…
In Blakely, depending on the rules, Travis Wimbush (black Dem) is either the mayor-elect or the favorite in a runoff against incumbent Mayor Anthony Howard (white Rep). This Early County city gave Abrams 62% of the vote. Turnout reached 85% of 2018 levels. walb.com/politics/elect…
I'm heartened to see turnout this high in small majority-black towns in Georgia.
Smithville and Eatonton both reached about 80% of their 2018 turnout (admittedly Eatonton is less small). For comparison, Savannah only had 52% of its 2018 turnout.
In Valdosta, radio host Scott James Matheson has moved into second place over onetime councilman David J. Sumner.
It's worth remembering that Eddie DeLoach came in second in the first round in 2015 (he was 2% behind Edna Jackson). I don't think he'll win the runoff this year but he shouldn't be counted out.
He certainly seems to have lost his majority on the council.
Carol Bell and Bill Durrence both lost, most importantly. connectsavannah.com/NewsFeed/archi…
In College Park, an 80% black city just outside Atlanta, incumbent mayor Jack Longino, who is white, won just 23.5% of the vote. He seems to have made it to a runoff against Bianca Motley Broom (31.1%), who is black, edging out Pamela Gay (22.3%).
In Jonesboro, longtime mayor Joy B. Day (also white) won over 2/3 of the vote. I didn't know until now that mayor pro tem Alfred Dixon (who is black) had been disqualified from running against her. news-daily.com/news/jonesboro…
Continuing through Clayton to Forest Park, Hector Gutierrez defeated incumbent Sandra J. Bagley 63%-37% for Ward 3 councilperson in an upset. Bagley is white, and the ward gave Abrams 82% of the vote. news-daily.com/news/forest-pa…
Riverdale: Mayor Evelyn Wynn-Dixon defeated councilman An'cel Davis 63-37, and Frank Cobbs narrowly won the open second ward seat against Rodney Lawrence. Ward 4 incumbent Kenneth Ruffin beat a challenger 63-37. All the candidates were black, I believe. news-daily.com/news/riverdale…
Morrow's elections did not go well for black candidates. For mayor, former city manager John Lampl leads incumbent Jeffrey DeTar 346-289; they will advance to a runoff. Bonita Crawford, the only black candidate, got 102 votes. news-daily.com/news/morrow-el…
Furthermore, for council Post 2, accountant Van T. Tran (who is Asian-American) narrowly beat out incumbent Jeannell Bridges, who is black.

In post 4, restaurant owner Khoa Vuong (300) and incumbent Larry Ferguson (223) advance to a runoff. Gilda White Hutcheson got 208 votes.
Hutcheson is the chair of the city's Planning and Zoning Board.

No Post 4 candiate was black. Vuong is Asian-American; the other two are white.
Leaving Clayton and moving to southeast Georgia, women will now comprise a 3-2 majority of Statesboro's city council (not counting the mayor, who only votes in ties but does have limited veto power). statesboroherald.com/local/women-se…
Shari Barr beat incumbent Derek Duke 52%-47% in District 5 (57% Abrams). Duke ran on “public safety” through surveillance, while Barr advocated for mass transit and for attention to environmental impact in city programs. thegeorgeanne.com/news/article_9…
Barr is clearly the more liberal option. Both of them are white.
also it turns out someone I know from Scouts writes for the GSU paper
In District 3 (68.8% Abrams), small business owner Venus Mack defeated incumbent Jeff Yawn 53%-47%. This district includes GSU's campus. I can't tell if there was a major policy divide between them, but Mack is black, while Yawn is white. thegeorgeanne.com/news/article_1…
In District 2 (80% Abrams), counselor Paulette Chavers defeated incumbent Sam Lee Jones 62%-38%. Chavers focused on fighting poverty. It seems they both support the proposed citywide bus route. thegeorgeanne.com/news/article_9…
Griffin (Spalding County): At-large commissioner Doug Hollberg leads Daa'ood Amin by 15 votes out of an unknown number. Amin has requested a recount, but that is probably too large of a margin to overcome in Georgia. griffindailynews.com/news/14547/bre…
Early voting was pretty red here, and Abrams won the city only 53.3% to 45.5%. So losing by 15 votes is not that bad.

To be clear, the total number of votes is known – it's just paywalled.
My spreadsheet now includes results for all cities larger than Dublin, GA, and many smaller cities too.
Found a result compilation for some counties in northeast Georgia. accesswdun.com/print/2019/11/…
Teri Dobbs, the incumbent mayor of Tallulah Falls, lost reelection 2-1 to Mike Early, a (the?) fire captain.
Oddly the council results there leave out an incumbent. Maybe she withdrew but that seems unlikely?
DeKalb posted a new version of their precinct result file that removes both major categories of unused rows, shortening the report to 104 pages. I really appreciate that!
They appear to have posted it about 11 minutes after I complained. I wish I had seen it before I started copying results from the 1,763-page file…
Chekeidra Crimes says she won the election for Clerk of Superior Court in Webster County.
It turns out that at least 81% of early voters in Eatonton Ward 2, and about 18% in Ward 1, were black.
Kevin T. Brown, who was the Democratic nominee against Mike Cheokas in 2012 and 2014, losing narrowly both times, was elected mayor of Buena Vista, GA this week.
.@oliviacpaschal took a look at the Webster County election do-over. Worth a read.
She reports that the unofficial results of the do-over election show Crimes winning 561-559.
I have added rows (largely unfilled) for all remaining cities in Georgia for the 11/05/2019 elections. I need to clean it up a bit by, e.g., marking cancelled elections as such. Cities where I don't have info are hidden for now. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
I also enabled commenting/suggesting so that people can let me know if something is wrong or should be added! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
Jonathan Grant uses some of my maps in a post about the DeKalb ethics referendum, which is worth a read:
Four years ago, Sparta, the seat of Hancock County, was at the center of a voting rights controversy after the majority-white county board of elections purged hundreds of black voters' registrations. It elected its first white mayor in decades soon after. thsppl.com/thsppl-article…
That mayor, R. Allen Haywood, was eventually ejected from office, most likely due to a past felony conviction. Former mayor William Evans, Jr. replaced him.

Haywood seems to have had his ability to run for office restored, because he just defeated Evans for mayor. Again.
Yeah, Evans won a special election after Haywood was removed. savannahnow.com/opinion/editor…
“…It's a bad idea to send sheriff's deputies knocking on doors while determining whether registered voters are eligible. It's a *terrible* idea when…a majority of the election board is white and when most of the people whose doors got knocked are African-American.”
Haywood was serving as the mayor pro tem until recently (he had to resign to run for mayor).
I don't have racial turnout info, but Haywood reportedly won the election 352-186 (65%-35%). There are only 129 white people registered to vote in the City of Sparta.

Maybe he's done a lot of outreach to black voters…or maybe his campaign engaged in voter intimidation. Again.
Stacey Abrams won Sparta 85%-15% with turnout of 570. At least 538 people voted in Sparta on Tuesday, purportedly.
This is disturbing. I need to sleep though.
