🇬🇪I try not to react to #Georgia-n politicians’ tasteless & baseless attacks but now I was left no choice.

I met Ms #Tsulukiani when she was a young, aspiring politician & a lawyer. Sad to see how she radicalised over the years & is now spreading lies & disinformation.
2/7
Ms #Tsulukiani knows best that I was & am one of the biggest critics of #Saakashvili’s regime & fought for the right of 🇬🇪 people to democratically elect their government. Accusing me of colluding with #UNM is a deliberate lie that no reasonably thinking person will believe.

#GD’s disinformation is reaching the #Kremlin’s level. GD is not #Georgia, criticizing GD is not the same as criticizing 🇬🇪. This is why I call myself a Friend of Georgia, not a “Friend of GD”. Stop hiding behind the country’s good name. Take responsibility for YOUR failures.

w the jailing of Nika Gvaramia, I would suggest we bury (once and for all) the term of "polarization" when it comes to politics in #Georgia. This has been one of the least helpful prisms from which to analyze Georgian politics over the last 5-8 years 1/n
"Polarization" (or the also terrible: mudslinging) visually implies a kind of horizontal symmetry, in which there is one side and another having a go at each other as if it's rival hooligans on a street @MovementDroa 2/n
For Georgia, this is such an utterly false and misleading image, that you might even hang it into your gallery of misinformation. It is evident, for anyone who cares to look more closely, what is really going on: @JDevdariani 3/

Collection of sentences about Russia/Ukraine that are based on pro-Russian or at least false information🧵

"we need to restore dialogue with Russia".
It was never cut off!

"we did not talk enough to Putin." Even now, he constantly receives phone calls and high level visitors
"NATO is encircling Russia" "NATO-expansion is a threat to Russia".

NATO is a defensive alliance: history shows, that is actually Russia that is a threat for its neighbors that are not protected by NATO #Georgia #Moldova #Ukraine
"Putin changed, he was different in 2000."

Putin was a KGB agent during the 80s. In the early 90s he said that he admires dictator Pinochet, in the 2000s his military commited war crimes in Chechnya

Here is a terrible, truly terrible, piece on #Georgia in @jacobin magazine. I won’t link to it, it's not worth your time, other than to show just how truly deluded many socialists in the US are, in making excuses for the #SovietUnion & #Russia. 1/n
That part really deserves attention and key takeaway: don’t trust a *single* paragraph of what you read in #Jacobinmag, if you do not know the issue yourself. (hello @DemSocialists) CC @ichbinilya @GilbreathDustin 2/
"Since the end of the Soviet Union, Western-oriented development has not only failed to address Georgia’s problems but reinforced them." With all these falsehoods, one doesn't even know where to begin. 3/n

Thread: 14 May 2022: Day 80 of #Russia's invasion of #Ukraine
It might not be completely finished yet—#Russia still has positions in the area—but as of 13 May #Ukraine has clearly defeated the Russians around #Kharkiv, and the complete eviction of Russian troops retreating toward the border is only a matter of time.

This article by @andrewduffEU is sadly typical of group think in & around the Brussels bubble.

“Nobody who knows how the Brussels institutions work-without a strong government-can be confident the EU is fit to internalize #Ukraine’s national problem.” 1/

politico.eu/article/ukrain…
It’s a well informed piece (from an #EU perspective) that on the surface might sound eminently reasonable- like some other recent attempts to fob off #Ukraine with 2nd class options. BUT, the quote in the previous tweet gives the game away. It shows 🇺🇦 is seen as a problem 2/
Rather than being recognised as the #EU’s best geopolitical opportunity in a generation, #Ukraine is presented as a cost, a burden to be borne, not a huge potential benefit to be embraced, or a possibility for EU renewal to be welcomed. 3/

(cit Danilo #Taino, @Corriere)
[2diN]

Terrifying! Also, watch the slide show. First, the creepy UF president who refrains from any critique of the bill and then lies that faculty can still teach freely. Second, some of the slides, which clearly make no sense. 🧵
HB7 criminalizes old-school overt racism as cover to outlaw critique or even discussion of new racism, ie covert, implicit, unintended, institutional.

Many academic studies have shown existence of "privileges" and "oppressions" linked to race, color, national origin & sex in US!
Again, many academic studies have shown that several of these "neutral" and "objective" policies and principles were explicitly created to discriminate against non-whites and women. EXPLICITLY!

In the South #Caucasus there has not been a common response to the invasion of Ukraine. 🇬🇪 is bound to a strategy of “non-deterrence”, 🇦🇲 remains subordinated to Russia’s security interests, and 🇦🇿 pursues its balancing policy.

A thread🧵
#Armenia is the only Russian ally in the South Caucasus. As a result of its defeat in the Second Karabakh War in 2020, Armenia is more reliant than ever on its security partnership with Russia, which leads the government to avoid any statement on the war in Ukraine.
Armenia hosts two Russian military bases - the Russian 102nd Military Base in Gyumri and the Russian 3624th Airbase in Erebuni Airport. Additionally, the Armenian population still living in Karabakh is dependent on Russian peacekeeping troops for its own survival.

“Let's start with the most dramatic and bloody events about Ossetia and Abkhazia. the problems of South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been dragging on for a long time, they did not arise during the time of Putin or even during the reign of Yeltsin, they are much older… 🧵
…The conflict between Abkhazians and Georgians dates back hundreds of years. During the time of Stalin, who was a Georgian, there was a forced Georgification of Abkhazia. That is, Georgians moved to the territory of Abkhazia and had to assimilate there…🧵

#Russia warns "consequences" for another negotiation format in the South Caucasus - Geneva International Discussions - devoted to conflicts in #Georgia. Recently Moscow voiced similar threats in #Karabakh context. Why contents of these complains have little to do with reality?🧵
In fact, this was #Russia that proposed to postpone the spring round of the Geneva talks. Its key negotiator Mr Rudenko was busy with talks in #Ukraine. There were some problems with logistics as well. 2/
Despite the cancelled round of talks, there has been no sign of disrupted cooperation on the ground. On the contrary, in the last couple of months contacts between the sides have been very active with people getting released rather than detained along the line of separation. 3/

1/4: A little light reading for your weekend: @NRCgov has released the first installment of its mammoth, decade-long "Level 3" Probabilistic Risk Assessment study. nrc.gov/docs/ML2206/ML…. It is seeking public comment by June 21. nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc…
2/4: The bottom line: the risk of a large, #Fukushima-like radiological release from the two-unit "reference" plant due to "internal" accidents and internal floods only is about 1 in 11,000 to 1 in 29,000 per critical-year, depending on whether FLEX measures are credited.
3/4: When external events (floods, earthquakes), low-power and shutdown modes, and spent fuel pool accidents are included, based on prior studies, these risks are likely to increase by at least a factor of 4: that is, to as high as 1 in 2,500 per year.

#NATO has the "right" to establish a base in #Ukraine #Georgia #Finland and #Sweden but.... 👇👇

The US is ready to respond accordingly and will not allow #China to establish a military base on the Solomon Island.
abc.net.au/news/2022-04-2…
When #Russia asked the #US not spread NATO, western countries responded that "countries have the right to decide what they want". That was on the 24th of February.

I hope by now you all understand that what is happening in #Ukraine is a #US battle for its world dominance only.
Basically the role is simple: no other country in the world is allowed to do what the #US has the exclusively right to do.

This is what the war in #Ukraine is about. And @ZelenskyyUa, an actor, has given control of his country to the de facto President Victoria Nuland.

A🧵thread on #Navalny so that hopefully it is clearer to Westerners why Ukrainians are sceptical of him (and no, Ukrainians aren't fools who need stuff explained to them !NEWSFLASH! our opinion kinda matters). As a teaser: twit by the man himself criticizing arms support for 🇺🇦
Peculiarly, despite criticizing #putin, #Navalny somehow supports #Kremlin's strategies, first, most obvious, his stance on the matter with #Russian annexation of #Crimea (our "#Sudetenland" if you will) is pretty clear - he supports it!
One thing on Crimea annexation he's not happy with - he would like to legalize it internationally (and indeed he'd a handy figure to do so, after toxic #putin is done).
Although, he isn't really as liberal as Russian propaganda paints him (hm.. why would they do it, huh?)

So some interesting things have surfaced in the last few weeks that I want to share. Be patient with me, I’m slow & get interrupted a lot. But, I think it’s worth it to share this information before the mid-term elections.

😃 Please don’t forget to vote in November…💙
This article from 04/06/2022 has been weighing on my mind…it’s regarding the #RockbridgeNetwork, defined as a coalition.

What is a “political coalition” in the US?
Not much. It’s basically a verbal, non-regulated agreement to finance an agreed upon political agenda.
While #RockbridgeNetwork is being considered a “new GOP coalition”, it isn’t, think #CambridgeAnalytica. Plus, it is not the only “new GOP coalition” popping up before mid-term elections. #ChestnutStreetCouncil has been started by Matt Schlapp, think #KochNetwork

Really like the new coaching staff in Seattle. Should put them in a better position to win. Roster talent purge from the prev regime will have an early effect (last 2 classes were 39th, 86th) but the ship has been righted.

Welcome to the weekend and to Day 38 of the Kremlin war on #Ukraine.

More morale problems for Russia with irradiated troops, heavy losses amid the withdrawal from #Kyiv and still question marks over the bombing of the fuel depot on Russian soil.

I am still gathering news and data on the Russian attacks on #Ukraine during the night.

#Kharkiv again looks to be worst hit, with endless explosions heard. Some fires burn - this one video submitted. Remember exact locations cannot be revealed, hence the blurring

British intelligence highlights the two recent incidents in #Belgorod, the Russian city close to the border with Ukraine.

Although Ukraine denied the attacks, UK wouldn't highlight this unless it believed they did it, so I bow to the military intel.
