Breaking: Head of UN agency for Palestinian refugees to “step aside” until corruption probe concludes

The UN Secretary General is investigating but donors were reluctant to pay more with it ongoing. One diplomat this morning told me donors would be “relieved” with UNRWA again facing financial crisis

UNRWA provides support to more than 3 million Palestinian refugees across the Middle East. It employs more than 25,000 people- mostly Palestinians but senior management is foreign. Leaked internal report accused small number of leaders of abuse of power, bullying and graft
