Evictions in the "big six" housing courts have been our focus so far, but there is public housing and HUD assisted housing throughout the city, including in the 5th:
Today, 5th district candidates began to weigh in on evidence of mass evictions in Creighton Court, reported below. Creighton is not the only site of mass evictions. Whitcomb Court has 35 evictions on the docket for tomorrow.
This afternoon @DaSilvaRVA took a strong stance against eviction, stating the role redevelopment has taken in both driving families from their homes and housing authority's warehousing of empty units despite a housing waitlist.

Last week I tried something new - I organized a 1 day personal retreat for myself.

It was awesome. In a very short time, I was able to build incredible clarity around my short and long term goals and my priorities for the year. Will definitely be repeating. Details below:
If you’re thinking “how did you clear your schedule for a whole day?” the answer is planning. I made the decision about 2 months ago, put it on the calendar, and fiercely resisted the urge to schedule anything in that time.
One imperfect thing was that I woke up with an hour of “essential” work to do. So, I started early, stayed focused, and got those things done. I then reset and unplugged with a trip to the climbing gym. Once the retreat started, I stayed almost completely off email until evening.

Last week Breitbart announced planned legal action against @slpng_giants. In their statement, they believe SG made false claims about their content. I thought I'd take another dive into the Breitbart comment section to see how their content inspires and motivates hate.
The article seen here was published yesterday (10/31) and it looks to have been an effective dog-whistle. In total, I documented nearly 100 comments from this article that would be classified as "targeted harassment" or "threatening content" according to @disqus TOS.
In Breitbart articles that target @CNN, it's common to find the same kind of rhetoric that motivated Cesar Sayoc to send more than a dozen pipe bombs, three of which were intended for CNN.

Last week, USCIS issued two new memos that are going to affect *all* immigration applications. That includes green cards, fiancé visas, H-1B's, citizenship, work permits, extensions and changes of status - the whole nine yards.
The first memo says that if an application is denied, and that denial leaves the applicant without lawful immigration status, the applicant will be placed in removal proceedings (deportation.)

The second memo says that if an application is filed incompletely, without certain required evidence, then USCIS has the right to deny the application *without* requesting further evidence (commonly known as an "RFE.")
