The Federal Records Act requires agencies to preserve records. Shulkin provided the VA with more than 22,000 pages from his personal email accounts, but he declined to confirm whether he had turned over all records in his possession.
The court ordered the VA to talk to Shulkin to determine how he conducted his search for those 22,000 pages and to confirm his commitment to preserving records. The VA will provide an update on its efforts by December 13.

1. Could we eliminate the Department of Veteran’s Administration and roll its funding into one government-run healthcare option? The VA is requesting $220.2 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2020, a staggering 9.6% increase above fiscal 2019. Let’s examine the pros and cons of no VA.
2. Wastebusters frequently love to cite the VA—which is famous for cost overruns. A 182-bed VA hospital in Aurora, Colorado ended up $1 billion over budget (or less than what Uber lost last quarter). Similar cost overruns plagued VA projects in Las Vegas, Orlando and New Orleans.
3. In 2015, with the new center only half-built, Congress transferred management of the project from the VA to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to speed up its completion. VA mismanagement was deemed to be a root cause of the Aurora project's problems.

Now: A federal judge in DC denied the govt's motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a married lesbian couple -- one US citizen, one not -- whose child was denied US citizenship because the non-citizen mom gave birth. At a hearing today, the judge called the situation "outrageous"
Judge Emmet Sullivan didn't rule on the merits, only that the couple had made allegations at this stage that were enough for the case to go forward. But the judge made clear that he had a problem with the real-world consequences of the State Dept's position
The couple has two kids, one carried by the US citizen parent and the other carried by the non-citizen. The judge kept returning to a hypothetical scenario of the family arriving at a US airport and one kid sitting there watching as their sibling is questioned

You want to mourn #suicide? Mourn this. In 2013, the US Department of Veterans Affairs released a study that covered suicides from 1999 to 2010: roughly 22 veterans were dying by suicide per day, or one every 65 minutes. Some suggest that this rate may be undercounting suicides.
