*my first court story*

Today, I served as the attorney for my client, the accused. It was his arraignment. After a long discussion, he decided that he wanted to admit his guilt in open court, but was scared because the penalty imposable under the law is imprisonment OR a fine.
So I told him that since he’s a first time offender and he plans to plea guilty, most likely the judge was going to just impose the fine as a penalty, in lieu of imprisonment. Still, he was still uneasy because he knew that the fine can reach up to 40K, which he can’t afford.
In my desperate attempt to give him an alternative and ultimately, help him in his problem, I scrambled the internet before the start of the hearing and found RA 11362 or the Community Service Act, a law which allows the judge to impose community service in lieu of imprisonment!

Day 1: "The Wise Little Hen" (June 9, 1934)

Donald's 1st appearance, as a scene-stealing supporting actor in this Silly Symphony cartoon. He is paired w/Peter Pig, who will never have a role this good again. DD becomes an instant star, while Peter is demoted to background player
I think they know they have something here; they save Donald's intro for last, and give him a great entrance.

Also, WLH's singing voice is perfect, and Peter Pig's speaking voice is a true nightmare. You can feel his cartoon career ending the moment he opens his mouth.

Fascinating CA6 opinion today holding that chalking a tire for parking enforcement -- to see if the car had been there a while in violation of parking rules -- violates the 4th Amendment. Not sure where I come out on it, but fun issue. Here's a thread. opn.ca6.uscourts.gov/opinions.pdf/1… #N
The court first reasons that the chalking is a Jones trespass, which the court, without analysis, says is determined by a common law trespass test as interpreted by the Restatement 2nd of Torts.
The court then says the trespass was done "to obtain information," as required by Jones, b/c the purpose of chalking is to find out what cars haven't been moved.
