#SundayThoughts on #Leadership

One of the leadership traits that is often praised is the ability to lead from the front.

How relevant is this, especially in the context of empowering your colleagues, coaching your team, developing big leaders and to allow faster decision making
Why are leaders scared of letting their staff fail? The same is true for parenting as well. The constant fear of failure prevents leaders and most parents to “let go’, which unfortunately, may provide a temporary relief from a disaster but sets up employees & children for failure.
The challenge for leaders, especially as one moves from an individual contributor (operational) to a team leader (strategic) role is to be able to step back and let the second rung of leaders take over.

I read an excellent short story and felt it was #TooGoodNotToShare .
I encourage all to read it once ..

CAUTION : The names used below are imaginary names ..

Tayo and Kola joined a company together a few months after their graduation from university.
After a few years of work, their Manager promoted Tayo to a position of Senior Sales Manager, but Kola remained in his entry level Junior Sales Officer position.

Kola developed a sense of jealousy and disgruntlement, but continued working anyway.
One day Kola felt that he could not work with Tayo anymore. He wrote his resignation letter, but before he submitted it to the Manager, he complained that Management did not value hard working staff, but promoted only the favoured!

I read a touching message and felt it was #TooGoodNotToShare

A movie theater announced that an 8-minute movie won the title of #BestShortFilm in the World and
decided to display this movie for free, so that the largest crowd could gather to watch it ...
The movie began with a snapshot of a room ceiling that is devoid of any decoration and of any details; Just a white ceiling ...

Three minutes passed without the camera moving and it did not move to any other scene, or any other part of the ceiling in the same room ...
Another 3 minutes passed without the camera moving & without changing the scene

After 6 boring minutes, the viewers started grumbling. Some of them were about to leave the theater whilst others complained to the officials of the house that they wasted their time watching a ceiling

Today many countries have an interesting #paradox.

Do we continue #lockdown for a very long time and wipe out our economies or let a few people die and keep the economies going.

The #ProtogorasParadox succinctly captures the #paradox of our times !!
I am sure most of you know about the #ProtagorasParadox.

In case you don’t, please read on this #TooGoodNotToShare explanation received recently from a friend ..

I am told, The story goes to over 2000 years ago and is about a lawyer in Greece, with the name Protagoras.
A young student, Euthalos, requested to apprentice under him but was unable to pay the fees.

The student struck a deal saying, “I will pay your fee, the day I win my first case in the court”.

The Teacher agreed.

I received a fantastic read last evening, from a friend captioned #TheCobraEffect and found it #TooGoodNotToShare

Thanks @Rajesh68058461 for sharing this one ..

Wonder if you’ve heard about it; if not, read on and pass it to your friends if you like it ..
#TheCobraEffect is a term in #economics. It refers to a situation when an attempted solution to a problem makes the problem worse.

This name was coined based on an incident in old colonial India.

By some reasons, there were too many venomous cobra snakes in Delhi.
People were dying due to snake bites& it became scary for almost everyone to step out of their houses

The govermnt had to take action to stop this menace & it offered a silver coin for every dead cobra. The results were great,a large number of snakes were killed for the reward.

This morning I woke up thinking about the world after #COVID19 when I got this message from my friend @maxwellubah and felt it was #TooGoodNotToShare

Sitting down and thinking about the #COVIDー19 pandemic and the restrictions of movement, here's my #ThreeBigLessons
#Leadership is all about #decisionmaking

The world was slow to react to the virus. #WorldLeaders neglected it & even described it like the common flu. By the time they woke up, it had become widespread with thousands dead.

Most deaths outside Wuhan were completely avoidable
Today, we have shut down our airspace and restricted movements. This same decision could have been taken when the first case of coronavirus incidence happened. Well, as they say, it's never too late to correct a wrong action.

Key lesson here is that #LeadersAreDecisive

Just Read a very nice article, whilst onboard #Emirates for a short trip to #Dubai about the 3 ships which were nearby when the #Titanic sunk and felt it was #TooGoodNotToShare ..

A quick reading is recommended..

#Sampson

It was 7 miles away from Titanic, but since the crew had been hunting seals illegally &didn't want to be caught, they turned away from the Titanic

This ship represents those of us who are so busy in our own sin &lives that we can't recognize when someone else is in need
#Californian

This ship was only 14 miles away from the Titanic, but because the conditions weren't favorable & it was dark, the crew convinced themselves that nothing was happening

This ship represents those of us who say I can't do anything now & wait until conditions r perfect

I read the below analogy and really loved it!
#WhatsInYourCup ..
I found it #TooGoodNotToShare ..

You are holding a cup of #coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
Now think ...Why did you spill the coffee?

If your answer is “Because someone bumped into me!!!"

It’s the Wrong answer.

You actually spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been #tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen surely), whatever is inside you will come out.

It's very easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

"I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success ..
However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

A young man saw his primary school teacher on a wedding.
He went to greet him with all the respect and admiration.

He said to him:
"Do you remember me, Teacher?"

The teacher said: "No, please introduce yourself."
The student said: "I was your student in the 3rd Grade, I am the one who stole the watch of a child in the classroom. I will remind you but I am sure you remember the story."

One of the boys in my class had a beautiful watch, so I decided to steal it.

I read a beautiful message on #belief and #trust and found it #TooGoodNotToShare

A person started to walk on a rope tied between two tall towers. He was slowly walking balancing a long stick in his hands. He has his son sitting on his shoulders.
Every one from the ground were watching him in bated breath and were very tensed. When he slowly reached the second tower every one clapped, whistled and welcomed him. They shook hands and took selfies. Few also posted them on social media ..
He asked the crowd “do you all think I can walk back on the same rope now from this side to that side?”

The Crowd shouted in one voice “Yes,Yes,you can”

Do you trust me he asked. They said yes, yes, we are ready to bet on you.

A leading five star hotel in #India had invited Mr. Masai Imai from Japan to hold a workshop for its staff.
The staff were very skeptical - the hotel is doing excellent business, this person from #Japan has no exposure to hotel industry - what exactly is he going to teach?

But everybody gathered as planned for the workshop in the conference hall sharp at 9 am.
Mr.Masai was introduced to them;a not so impressive personality, nor the English all that good;spoke as if he was first formulating each sentence in Japanese & then translating it into rather clumsy English.

If it touches you the way it did me, please do share because a story shared lives on forever and I think this story is for all of us....
As per an old Irish saying ..
"Three apples fell from the tree. One for he who tells the story, one for he who reads and or listens to the story and one for he who understands."

You will have one apple when you read this .....I hope you receive at least two if not all three!!!

I read reviews about this book #DieEmpty and found them #TooGoodNotToShare ..

The most beautiful book to read is "Die Empty" by Todd Henry.

The author was inspired and got this idea of writing this book while attending a business meeting.
When the director asked the audience: "Where is the richest land in the world?"

One of the audience answered: "Oil-rich Gulf states."

Another added: "Diamond mines in Africa."
Then the director said: "No it is the cemetery. Yes, it is the richest land in the world, because millions of people have departed/died and they carried many valuable ideas that did not come to light nor benefit others. It is all in the cemetery where they are buried."

I read a great article on why the younger generation do not buy cars & apartments anymore & found it #TooGoodNotToShare

#WhyOwnWhenYouCanRent?

#SharedEconomy

Nowadays, the traditional measure of success-owning an apartment & or a car-is getting out of date
An increasing number of young people around the world don’t want to buy them.

#Research shows that the so-called #MillennialGeneration, who are now 30-35 years old, rarely buy houses and even more rarely — cars. In fact, they don’t buy super expensive things at all.
In the USA, people under the age of 35 are called ’the generation of renters.’

Why does this happen?

Some sociologists say the current generation of young people differs from their parents’ generation. They have other values.

A father left 17 Camels as an Asset for his Three Sons

🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪

When the Father passed away, his sons whilst going thru some old papers, found his will. They called some family witnesses & opened the will.
The Will of the Father stated that the Eldest son should get Half of 17 Camels.

The Middle Son should be given 1/3rd of 17 Camels,

AND The Youngest Son should be given 1/9th of the 17 Camels.
Since it’s not possible to divide 17 into half or 17 by 3 or 17 by 9, the sons started to fight with each other.

The finally decided to go to a wise man.

The wise man listened patiently about the Will .

It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town, and the man loved the house the most!

Many people were ready to give double price for the house, but he had never agreed for any price and now it is just burning before his eyes.
And thousands of people have gathered, but nothing can be done, the fire has spread so far that even if you try to put it out, nothing will be saved.

He becomes very sad and tears start rolling down his eyes 👀

I received a beautiful speech, from a Friend, given by Pope Francis recently ..
I Thought It was #TooGoodNotTOShare

You can have flaws, be anxious, and even be angry, but do not forget that your life is the greatest enterprise in the world. Only you can stop it from going bust.
Many appreciate you, admire you and love you.

Remember that to be happy is not to have a sky without a storm, a road without accidents, work without fatigue, relationships without disappointments.
To be happy is to find strength in forgiveness, hope in battles, security in the stage of fear, love in discord.

It is not only to enjoy the smile, but also to reflect on the sadness.

It is not only to celebrate the successes, but to learn lessons from the failures.

Just received this beautiful write up in another group. I was touched reading it and Felt it was #TooGoodNotToShare

Dr Laha -
#TheContactAndTheConnection

Year 1990. I was returning from Delhi by flight with a monk of Ram Krishna Mission.
One journalist from Chile was there with us . He was to take an interview of the monk.

Journalist - dear Sir , in your last lecture u told us about Jogajog ( contact ) & Sanjog (connection ). It's really confusing. Can u please explain the difference to me ?
Monk smiled a little, but deviating from question, he asked - are u from Chile ?
Journalist(J) - Yes
Monk (M) - who are there at home ?

Journalist thought Monk is trying to avoid his question... this is a very personal and unwarranted question.
