We have to draw the line between Trump’s corruption and the unchecked greed by the billionaire class. Both are post-political, both are motivated by a principleless, never ending quest for more, and both threaten to tear apart the very idea of society.
It’s not a coincidence that we’re facing both crises in this very moment. We’ve watched top-down ideology run rampant, hurt people, and create an unequal society where law and duty and basic human decency have lost meaning.
Trump and the billionaires see politics and law as impediments, useless things that only slow them from getting what they want when they want it. This moment is defined by the very shredding of politics and law, by their very endangerment.
They might seem unrelated, but what we’re watching is generations of inequality come to a head. We either root out corruption and reestablish fairness or we’re going to be a full-fledged, corrupt oligarchy with literally no way out. Those are the stakes.
