I came across this email and thought I'd share an important story with you.

I received the email below from a contact while trying to navigate my options after my master's degree in Australia.

I was enrolled for a Master of Public Health in 2016.

As you can see, many assumed there was no future (jobs, visas, etc).

Don't get me wrong.

They meant well because it was actually easier to go via other courses.
I chose to stay.

I knew it would be challenging. But I didn't really care. I was actually open to leaving AU.

I kept going.

Every goal starts with a decision & a genuine desire to make it happen

When there is no desire, there is no passion, no willpower to make it happen. If you can't change your mindset, don’t read on, you will not follow through

2 — Identify your strengths

Competence is key.

Employers exchange money for your services. The greater the services you provide, the better your value.

You have to get really good in your field to get more money. You need to be better than average.

Dear Job Seekers, when a recruiter asks you what you're upto, don't give an hint that you're idle. Even if you're unemployed, talk of a passion project or a course you're pursuing. They'll take advantage of your desperation! #fromexperience #Careers #IkoKazi #JobSeekers
Refrain from giving details of your background and family. You'll be surprised they don't care if you're a first generation or an orphan. They'll use that information in the offer letter quotation. Talk about your work instead!
Always remember that they're paying for your value and not the fact that you're a parent to 3 children and have dependants. Hide all the job desperation you might have!

1.5 crore merchants, 23% of the Indian MSME segment, recorded transactions on Khatabook in FY 20-21. Here's the ‘2021 Mid-year Covid Impact' analysis, a small effort from our end to understand the MSME segment behavior based on insights from the Khatabook platform.
Lockdowns have a direct impact on MSMEs. In 2021, lockdowns are in line with the increasing COVID cases. So there is a direct link between COVID cases and a drop in business activities. The segment is yet to achieve full recovery to the pre-COVID levels of March 2020.
The MSMEs across cities from all the Tiers have experienced more or less the same impact during the pandemic. The COVID second wave impact for Tier 1 and 2 cities has been slightly lower than metros, Tier 3 and Tier 4.

Networking, to me, most simply is making new *friends* who will _eventually_ help you *professionally*. It is those you you share something in common professionally (same industry, same kind of work etc) in contrast to personally (went to same college, like same music etc) (2/)
It takes a while to become good friends with someone. It's the same w/ networking - it takes time to build that bond, and need to be patient. One asks favours only from friends they know well - same for your networking connections. Start early, don't wait till you need a job (3/)

I go walking to get rid of tensions and anxieties. It’s how I emotionally regulate.

On yesterday’s walk my mobile phone rang (I keep it switched on for safety reasons).

It was my GP.

I wasn’t altogether surprised when I saw who it was. I’m expecting to get called for vaccination.

But taking a call from my GP while out on the hills muddled things up.

That’s the kind of thing I go walking to escape from.

Once the query was resolved my walk continued.

I found myself thinking about how I like to compartmentalise things, and keep them separate.

I like tomato ketchup and eggs separately, but not together.

I’ve never felt comfortable using my mobile phone for work.

The mushiness of blurred boundaries is tricky for me.

It's true one can't be great at everything but also true that one can be great at a range of things and they may not be related superficially but in principle. #Careers
When People talk about not being passionate about career choices that give a better leverage for their earning potential. I'm stunned, because many times they have not even given it a try.
So how did they figure out they are not passionate about it.🤷🏽‍♀️
It's that time of the year when people decide on what skills to learn or career switches and I'll like to talk about leverage.

So you're artistic,drawing or makeup or tailoring are not the only channels of expression,learn about the principles of design and follow the the money.

So you are tired of your job. Not a bad thing. The key issues are these:

1. Identify what is the source of the frustration. The pay? The people? The environment? The nature of the job? The work itself?
Every one has a different response.

If it's the pay, can you add a side hustle? Can you learn something thay will add extra? Can you get a new certification that will improve you? Can you apply for a new job? Can you request for a raise since you have the results?
If it's the people, or the environment, drill down to the real issue. Are you an Introvert trying to thrive with Extroverts? Is it thay people don't commit to their jobs and it gets to you?

1. Layout matters. Format your resume to look simple, sharp and pleasing to the eye. Don't get too creative with unique designs except it's a company that values a good sense of design.

2. Be concise and concrete when highlighting your roles, experiences, and results. 2 or 3 bullet points for each job listed is okay. Be specific about your responsibilities and accomplishments, using numbers whenever possible to show results.

It's a truly difficult question to answer if you haven't locked down a job, or don't have a concise, definitive explanation for how you intend to spend the next 40 - 50years.

1. Do not answer in a way that makes you seem indifferent or interested.

2. Form a 2-sentence elevator pitch that gives people an idea of who you are, what you're interested in, and what you've done in the past.

Both happen because you learn to prioritize “needle moving” almost like a game.

(1/2) Sales skill is so underrated in a corporate environment, but can be so easy there.

For example, you do something awesome at work or make a huge effort, but it might get overlooked.

How do you make sure it doesn’t?

I have a rule that if I do any work after 10 pm (rare)...

...somebody powerful will get emailed by me that night, even if it’s just a CC they wouldn’t normally get.

You get enough of these in a year and in annual/raise/promotion discussions, half the people in the room are acknowledging your work ethic and attitude.
Do the same thing with when something cool happens on a project. If only your boss knows, find a way to make sure a cross section of powerful people know about it.

Work hard and do good work and then make sure people know.
