Finally watched the BBC Climategate 10-year anniversary documentary. While I had my quibbles (and a surprise cameo!), overall it wasn't bad. One thing folks may wonder is how @stevenmosher ended up going from the guy who first received the emails to working with Berkeley Earth.
Its a story of a someone initially deeply skeptical of climate science who has changed their views over time after an in-depth look at the evidence. Initially Mosher was a moderator of Anthony Watts' blog WUWT, and it was in that capacity that he got his hands on the CRU emails.
Shortly after the emails were released, in March 2010, I wrote some code to download and calculate global land temperatures using NOAA's GHCN station database: rankexploits.com/musings/2010/a…
The blogger Tamino had done his own version around the same time, as well as skeptics Jeff Id and Roman M shortly after: noconsensus.wordpress.com/2010/03/24/the…

We all found similar results: the warming on land was exactly the same (or higher) than the official CRUTEM record.
Mosher developed his own temperature record, MoshTemp, and others including @nstokesvic, Troy Masters, Ron Broberg, and a number of other (at the time) amateur bloggers. We all got quite similar results, and examined lots of ancillary issues like UHI, station siting, etc.
In early 2011 both Mosher and I independently were introduced to the Berkeley Earth team led by Richard Muller and @RARohde. As were were each doing our own work with temperature reconstructions, it made sense to join forces and collaborate on the Berkeley project.
In summary, Mosher was skeptical of global temperature records, did his homework and created his own version from the ground up, and found the same results as CRU/NOAA/NASA, and ultimately participated in a research group making further improvements to temperature reconstructions
Addendum: Around the same time @drjtwit made Clear Climate Code, a reimplementation of the @NASAGISS temperature record in Python, that also helped us better understand what was done (since none of us know FORTRAN very well!).
