Is this legit a question about why people would share about losses & failures on social media? Well, let me answer:
For many of us, admitting failure publicly or discussing struggles publicly is cathartic. By sharing, we are able to connect with & get advice from people all over the world who have experienced something similar.
Sharing failures and losses is also a way for some folks to seek comfort, support & affirmation that they may not get from people in their face to face, day to day life. For marginalized folks, young folks still finding themselves, that digital community comfort is life-saving.
Finally, as someone with a small, but dedicated following of folks in similar careers or with similar identities & experiences, I share my losses, failures & struggles to let folks know they aren’t alone & to demonstrate what I do in the face of these experiences.
Sharing my L’s is one way I fight the pressure of social media to appear happy & successful at all times. I fail sometimes. It’s part of life. What we do with our failures matters.
In the words of @chancetherapper in @iamcardib’s “Best Life”: “Turned all my Ls into lessons”
