I got a package in the mail for “The Amazing Dr. Sami Schalk” & that’s how I know I have the perfect friends.
Part of the friend breakup I had recently involved losing a small collection of books on non-monogamy that I consider a community resource. I mentioned it passingly to a close queer polyam friend & today new versions of all my books showed up. 😭😭😭
Seriously, books are precious to me & I was more upset about losing mine, with my notes handwritten inside, than I want to admit, but this, this is a person who sees me and loves me. I’m so lucky.

4 days until I go to Jamaica to visit family I only learned existed in May (Black family after only ever knowing white relatives). 2019 is keeping its high intensity life-changing nature to the end. What a fucking rollercoaster. Even making a packing list is making me nervous.
I will say though yall: my sister who’s 5 years younger than me is so cute. I really just wanna dress up & go dancing with her.
I’ve never had relatives I look like so the experience of finding out my sister looks so much like me has been surreal AF. Like there is no doubt. I can’t wait to get pics of us together.

I've talked about the situation with Goro Miyazaki and Tales from Earthsea a bit recently and I feel like reupping this thread from @CaseyExplosion about his second film and thinking about why it was so much better received

This was the perfect project for his redemption
Because what people didn't like about Earthsea was this big problem people jumping headfirst into a genre like epic fantasy

Too many options

Too easy to just make shit up

Too hard to commit to strong choices
The really bad reviews of Earthsea just said it was mush

Fantasy anime cliches strung together without rhyme or reason - Dragons! Magic! A Dark Lord! A Sword of Destiny!

Even Le Guin said, watching the movie, she couldn't recognize what book material was being referenced when

2. For those who don't get the problem, imagine if someone claimed that American history began in 1607. Su Beng claims that Taiwanese people have 400 years of history while he holds a firm anti-Chinese outlook.
3. What happened 400 years ago? It was when the first Han Chinese migrants from the mainland ended up in Taiwan. Taiwanese Independence advocates like him view the Hoklo in Taiwan (Taiwanese people with roots in southern Fujian province) as the true Taiwanese people.

Been thinking about the person who called the cops on the dog truck yesterday, and the details that lead folks to make judgments, most of which have nothing to do with the actual health/safety/happiness of the dogs.
If you google “sled dog truck,” you’ll see that a lot of mushers put dog silhouettes on the doors, or paw prints, or bright colors. There’s even this painted truck in Colorado, which is a-maz-ing. A screenshot of various dog trucks. Some of them have dog silhouettes, or bright paint or cartoons on them.
We bought our dog boxes used (after our last truck burned down, we moved them onto a new flatbed) and our priority has always been making sure they’re safe, dry, well-ventilated, and comfortable. The dogs jump right into their boxes; they love going for car rides. A dog on the ground touches noses with a pup in the truck
