Well thats disappointing by @comicrelief . Here is the backstory: One of their four strategic funding priorities is "Empowering women and girls to be free to lead the lives they choose" which they brand as " #genderjustice" 
The funding strategy is all about ensuring women & girls voices are heard in policy conversations through vibrant, active feminist movements. Tackling violence against women, and improving understanding about the influence of gender norms 👍
Presumably CR & their partners understand women & girls to be female people ♀️. Not people who identify w or are defined by stereotypes of femininity 💃(because thats the basis of feminism). At the same time they want to support human rights of transgender people (which is good)
But they don't seem to have thought this thru. & their new social media manager seems to have got the shorthand 'gender' (= women & girls) confused w gender meaning 'transgender' and has been busy tweeting about emojis & self ID (does CR have an organisational position?).
This culminated with the launch of "Women Wednesdays" a series of blogs for gender justice November focused on "women who have created change and spearheaded movements for other women" in which they choose someone who is *not a woman* 😱
This got quite a lot of pushback from "vibrant, active feminist movements" like the women of @MumsnetTowers (who started making a list of inspirational women), and the marvellous campaigner & fundraiser on VAWG @JeanHatchet mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_ri… (and many other tweets...)
These are women who have mobilised & crowdfunded into campaigns like @Womans_Place_UK @fairplaywomen because they are concerned that women's voices are being excluded (sometimes violently) from engaging w the UK gov's policy conversation about sex self ID theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
CR social media person (account now locked down) responded "TERFs are the worst" and then the @comicrelief account went silent till after midnight while they crafted this statement....
Thats broad! It seems to extend to Rachel Dolzeal and Anthony Lennon's right to define themselves as black, Stephonknee Wolscht to define as a 6 year old, and Emile Ratelband to identify as a 45 year old....🤔
..and it does not address the substance of the Q which was about @comicrelief 's judgment in passing over all female candidates in picking the first"*inspirational woman" to launch their series on *feminism and women's rights* (and whether they understand women as female people?)
There is a serious, grown up conversation to be had about how to protect the human rights of gender non-conforming people, without reinforcing sex stereotypes or undermining women's rights and protections as a sex. Here are some women having it:
CR's social media people have branded women having this conversation as TERFs (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists). Its a slur associated w threats of violence (and its an identity with which they don't identify) terfisaslur.com
Rather than doubling down on alienating women by calling them names & dismissing dismissing their concerns @comicrelief cld use #genderjustice November to invite some of the women from grassroots feminist movements like @Womans_Place_UK @fairplaywomen in for a chat
I'm all for a Spice Girls reunion. But I'll tell you what I want (what I really, really want) ....its for @comicrelief to get these five women in to talk serious about this issue @GoonerProf @Docstockk @RadFemLawyer @janeclarejones @8RosarioSanchez !
