Good morning. We arrived back in Keswick last night after a long drive back up from Bristol. I want to share a short story about a conversation we had at the end of our final leafleting round in one of the less well-off parts of the city. 1/
Daisy and I were in a lift with a group of other people, one lady had a pizza box in her hands. After she had stepped out we were left with one other guy. We were talking about how the smell of the pizza had made us realise how hungry we were. The guy interrupted. 2/
He said, "can I ask a favour? I've got nothing against you personally but can you please not put a leaflet through my door?" So we started talking to him, and we said of course we wouldn't. We asked him why and he said that he had no interest in voting. 3/
He said he used to vote but everyone had let him down and that the system was completely broken. He just didn't want to know any more. It doesn't matter who's running things. We said that we were with the Green Party, and while we shared his frustration, we hadn't had a chance 4/
to represent people like him yet. His expression softened slightly and he said he sympathised with us and agreed that the environment was the most important issue, but that he still wasn't interested. So we carried on chatting for a bit. We explained that Bristol West was our 5/
best hope for a second seat in parliament and that if there was anywhere worth voting for something new in the UK, it was here. We said we had travelled hundreds of miles to help the campaign even though I'm a candidate in Cumbria. And that it would be so immense to have two 6/
Green MPs in Westminster. He said he felt there were better ways he could make a difference and that the political route just wasn't worth it. I conceded he might be right, but said that I felt if we didn't at least try, then we're condemning ourselves to a hopeless future. 7/
He agreed and said he didn't want to dissuade me from what I was doing and that we should carry on the fight. We shook hands and said we had enjoyed talking to him. Then he said, "and you know what, I will take a leaflet. And IF I do vote on Thursday, I'll vote for you guys." 8/
I said he had made my day, and then he said we had made his. 💚

This is why we need the Green Party, and why Green candidates need to stand. Now don't let me down Bristol!
