He sought protection in the US but was forced to remain in Mexico as his asylum case proceeded.

But a CBP spox confirmed the maneuver, saying that when a decision is appealed, “immigration proceedings remain underway and individuals enrolled in MPP can be returned to Mexico to await the appeal.”
The notice says a judge has scheduled a hearing but I tried calling the DOJ number listed & was told that there is, in fact, no hearing scheduled.
That makes sense - he won his case.
