A couple of days from Xmas and National's campaign of relentless lying and negative isn't taking a break.

Let's take a look at what the Government has achieved in housing and what, if anything, National is planning

For starters: the govt built 60 homes a week in November (1/10)
All up, the Govt has completed 3900 homes since June 2018 (and several hundred before then, HUD doesn't say how many).

That's 50 a week, accelerating to 60 a week in November.

There are another 3,600 under construction right now and tens of thousands planned. (2/10)
Remember people saying focus should be state houses? It is. 55% of govt built homes state houses + 15% community housing

KiwiBuild's completed 275 homes, 635 under construction. Sales accelerating.

1071 completed 'market' homes, some below KB price caps, some above (3/10)
This is the fastest govt house building in at least 40 yrs.

It occurs as part of the highest total house building since 1974 (the all time record).

House completions are up 10% under the Ardern Govt. Consents are up 20%, meaning further growth in completions to come (4/10)
The record house building has seen house prices stabilise.

prices are now rising slower than wages despite record low interest rates. growth in rents, too, is slowing.

The number of first homebuyers getting their first home is up 25% under this govt (5/10)
there's still a huge housing shortage to fill but that shortage, which is the ultimate cause of high prices and rents, which lead to falling homeownership, overcrowding, andhomelessness, is at least stablising, when it was growing at 14,000 a year (6/10)
So, things are fair humming, despite the broken policy settings Jacinda's team inherited

Phil T is pushing on w reforms to get more homes built: HUD & Kainga Ora are up & running, infrastructure bonds, powers for KO to accelerate development, RMA reform are on track. (7/10)
So, what would National to do 'fix' the Ardern govt's record of record house building and reform?

-Cancel KiwiBuild
-No money for additional state houses

That's several thousand fewer homes each year.

-abolish the RMA.

with no plan to replace it. (8/10)
National would also repeal Jacinda's Govt's reforms designed to stop speculators & improve life for renters:

-ending the state house selloff
-foreign buyers ban
-ban on letting fees
-Healthy Homes
-5 yr bright line rule
-ban on loss ring-fencing
-Tenancy law modernisation (9/10)
So, who do you trust on housing: Jacinda's team who are building a record number of homes - 60 a week -and have implemented an impressive suite of reforms?

Or, National who have no plan but to scrap everything Phil, Megan, Jenny, Nanaia, and Kris have achieved? (10/10)
not enough space for the sources in the thread but the numbers are from HUD's monthly dashboard, stats nz dwelling estimates and building consents, QV sale prices, mbie rental bond data
