My toddler got given a book today and I'm not kidding, it is basically an ethical non-monogamy manifesto. Move over The Ethical Slut, it's time for the teachings of Six Dinner Sid... (thread)
So. Background. Sid the Cat is a massive slut for love, affection and food (relatable). In order to get what he needs, he visits six different houses on the same street. But it's not just about novelty. All these relationships are special and important in their own way.
It's a lot of emotional labour (and a scheduling nightmare no doubt) but worth it for the freedom and variety.
However, major red flag! 🚩 Sid's six partners-I-mean-owners DO NOT KNOW ABOUT ONE ANOTHER. They all think Sid is *their* cat. Sid has NOT been honest with them and they are rightly v pissed off with him. Let me be clear: this is not ethical, this is serious fuckcat behaviour.
They try to work things out but ultimately their needs are not aligned and they part ways. Sid goes on to find new owners in a new scene-I-mean-street where everyone is super open about their polycattery. There is honesty. They *communicate*.
Now look, I'm not saying this is a perfect example. Sid really fucked up here and we haven't really talked about his entitled-ass behaviour. But by the end everyone knows where they stand and what the expectations are and that's a beautiful lesson imo.
