Here is what I learnt from a mere 7-hour long visit to Meerut and meeting the very first family: deaths have happened due to bullet injuries. injured were taken to hospitals, which had instructions not to attend to bullet hit patients. 1/n
Mohsin died after a hospital turned him away. Asif 2as taken to as many as 4 hospitals, all refused to attend on him citing "orders to not operate bullet injuries".Families wr forced 2 bury bodies early morn the following day aftr post mortem proved cause of death was gunfire 2/n
Families can't file an FIR and seek posts mortem report from the police as their deceased family members have been booked for rioting, attempt to murder, etc.When they approach police they r threatened with arrest on the grounds that they were involved too 3/n
Eyewitnesses and neighbours show evidence of live firing in shops and buildings that bear bullet marks
So while families can't expect any probe, and have zero expectation of any impartial probe by the cops against their own, the local police has launched a manhunt for atleast 2000 and issued a poster of those wanted. This has forced many youth to go underground.
