Two Christmases ago I wrote a Linux driver for the CD drive in the Commodore CDTV but then Google asserted that it related at the time of conception or reduction to practice of the invention to the employer’s business, or actual or demonstrably anticipated research or development
Anyway I pushed it to github.com/mjg59/linux/tr… so you can have a preview of work that relates to either Google's business or actual or demonstrably anticipated research or development for a piece of hardware that was last produced 7 years before the company was incorporated
Anyway California Labor Code §2870 is a ride
(Some people were a bit confused here - Google's policies allow you to release modifications to open source code without having to ask anyone for permission, as long as you agree that Google own it.)

It's been over 90 days since I reported it and @TPLINK never responded, so: arbitrary command execution on the TP-Link SR20 smart hub and router (and possibly other TP-Link device)
TP-Link routers frequently run a process called "tddp" (TP-Link Device Debug Protocol) as root. It's had multiple vulnerabilities in the past and the protocol is fairly well documented. Version 1 has no auth, version 2 requires the admin password.
The SR20 still exposes some version 1 commands, one of which (command 0x1f, request 0x01) appears to be for some sort of configuration validation. You send it a filename, a semicolon and then an argument.

Thoughts on the latest Intel ME vulnerabilities: based on public information, we have no real idea how serious this is yet. It could be fairly harmless, it could be a giant deal.
There's two classes of vulnerability disclosed. One is in the Intel AMT component, which runs on ME and is restricted to "enterprise" hardware (which includes higher end laptops), the other is arbitrary ME execution and applies to the entire product range.
The AMT vulnerabilities "only" permit code execution in the context of AMT. That means at least all the capabilities of AMT, but potentially more besides.

Two months ago I wrote abt Frank Digges, who was beaten to death by guards in a Texas prison. His mom, of course, took it hard. She stopped watching TV & would just stare at the walls, her family said.

Her health deteriorated. This week, she died.

It was seven weeks after she'd buried Frank.

There's so many prison deaths I write about, it's hard to keep them all straight. But this was the one where guards stormed the cell after Frank wouldn't hand over a container he'd used to toss water at them.

The guards sprayed him w/ chemical agents, then went in the cell. When they left, he was bloodied and had to be flown to the hospital. He was leaking spinal fluid from his eyes. He looked like this:

When we left the camp, we caught a ride with a rancher who dropped us off in Hereford, TX. Hereford has one flashing light, and it stinks. It’s a big cattle town, so there’s lots of cattle trucks going by, all of them loaded with cattle.
Between the manure, urine and sweet, they stink. We got there about 2PM, and the hours rolled by with no ride. About 8PM, a Texas thunderstorm rolled through, and the temperature dropped dramatically. It was cold. We ran under an abandoned gas station canopy during the storm.
