1/2 On @maddow, @JulianCastro says Iowa caucuses may not be accessible for people with disabilities. When I was US Atty, one of my colleagues learned of access issues in Alabama & worked to get a settlement agreement in our largest county, but barriers exist throughout our state.
2/2 I’m sure Alabama’s not unique in this regard. As you develop a plan to vote & help people in your community, consider these access issue like whether wheelchairs can get through security checkpoints in some polling places. We must insure people with disabilities have access.
I should add-b/c of my colleague’s persistence, I’ve had numerous people tell me they were able to vote. & because we were aware of problems, we were there to troubleshoot day of election. Every eligible citizen should get to vote. This is a problem we must fix everywhere.
