True: the average guess of 100 people independently trying to guess Person X's weight will be more correct that any single guess.

Also true: on Twitter they will form 2 factions of 50, one screaming X is dying of starvation, the other screaming X is an obese fat fuck.
The key difference here: in the weight-guessing experiment the only guesser incentive is to get it correct. On Twitter the incentive is to convince people you're correct and drag anybody who disagrees, whether or not you're correct
in conclusion: pay no attention to what the crowd is saying with its mouth, pay attention to what it's saying with its money
