Running my girlfriend's first D&D game tonight with some friends!

Hell yeah I am going to tell you about the setting.
Campaign name is "Evanishment", where the thing disappearing is magic.

It's a steampunk setting where the characters live high in the mountains above "The Dust", a mutating, lethal fog that covers most of the world's surface.
what is the Dust? Where did it come from?

Well...

There were a few mortals at the dawn of technology who decided that neither magic nor tech was moving quickly or powerfully enough for them. Innovation at all costs!
To drive their ambition, they developed a new way of using magic, called "rending".

It is what it sounds like.

You get power easily by tearing the weave of magic open and strip-mining it rather than threading the weave.

They taught it to their workers.
over time, 'weaving' just became...impractical.

It soon became forgotten.

The four mortals leading this "revolution", known as the Barons, amassed incredible power. They rivalled the gods.

Gods do not like rivals.
The Gods and their followers would soon come into conflict with the forces of the Barons.

The Gods walked the earth as giants to giants, wreathed in their power and fury.

No matter what the Barons had thought they achieved, they found themselves reeling before the Gods.
...the war seemed over almost as quickly as it begun, but the Gods learned a powerful lesson in the wake of the Baron's hubris.

As the Gods walked into the Baron's trap and the switch was flipped, they learned that even Gods can die.
"The Dust"...is the dissipated remains of the dead Gods.

So many were lost in those times to the Dust, but the Barons and enough people were able to retreat in tunnels and eventually up into the mountains that society could rebuild again.
The new society, high up in the mountains and powered by obscene technologies and magics, is known as Insathar.

The ambitions of the Barons (they name themselves after the seasons) has not wavered.

As the Dust starts to rise even higher, they rend what is left of magic.
Weaving has been outlawed, as has religion. But people make magic by communing with nature somehow, and people worship what are known as the "small gods" hiding their powers in crafts and services.

This is the world the campaign starts in.
Super can't wait to run this adventure!

I sometimes think I am pretty good at this stuff :)
