A strange piece that neglects Jesus speaking about hell often and in detail: "Hades" is a place of torment (Lk 16:23); of "unquenchable fire" (Mk 9:43); where the worm never dies (Mk 9:48). Also, see Jesus's parable about the sheep and the goats (Mt 25).

One reason that Christians, like me, believe in hell is because Jesus warns us about it--often. Christians also believe in judgment. We believe in mercy, but a God who does not judge is a God who does not care what we do. However, what hell is like and who is there is up to God.
St. Therese of Lisieux once said that she believed in hell, but because of God's great mercy, she believed that it was empty. God offers mercy to all, but will all be humble enough to accept it?

But to say that hell has no biblical foundation seems a strange statement indeed.

Something of a bombshell: A new book details how then Cardinal Ratzinger and Bertone sought to impose another "intervention" upon the Jesuit Order after the resignation of Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, SJ with Cardinal Bergoglio as its head. Bergoglio refused... religiondigital.org/_82f7d622
...and Kolvenbach protested. This had happened before, in the early 1980s, when John Paul II placed his own "delegate" to run the Jesuits after Father Arrupe's stroke. John Paul had been led to expect the Society's disobedience; instead he found Arrupe and the Jesuits obedient.
Thus, far from the way that he has sometimes been portrayed, Cardinal Jorge-Mario Bergoglio, SJ, was not the scourge of the Society of Jesus, but here its greatest supporter and defender.

Gospel: Four friends of a paralyzed man bring him to Jesus for healing (Mk 2). But there is such a crowd that they must tear off the roof ("unroof the roof" says the Greek). How much they love their friend! And how great their faith is. This is what Jesus notices, according...
...to most NT scholars: not the paralyzed man's faith, but his friends' faith. "When Jesus saw their faith, he said to him, 'Child, your sins are forgiven.'"

How often do our friends carry us to God. Today, why not think of all those people who have done so in your life.
