State Department, just before a midnight deadline tonight, released to @weareoversight 71 pages of Ukraine-related records including text messages/calendar entries of Kurt Volker, former special envoy to Ukraine. Most previously been released to House. Still fascinating reading

@weareoversight Been paging through this stuff again this morning, some of most incriminating material to emerge in whole investigation. Contemporaneous discussions among Trump aides/officials in Ukraine. Yes, this a version of this same material released in October by House. But worth rereading

More than perhaps anything else the last week has demonstrated Trump White House has been historic opening for a very odd assembly of opportunists who leverage personal ties to Trump/his family to attempt to enrich themselves or push their political goals (often without success)
Yes, this same thing happens with other politicians. But typically, there is at least some effort to screen who has regular access to POTUS and how they might be using this access to pursue questionable or at times illegal goals.
And the Trump hotel in DC is the breeding ground for most of them, as we and others have written. nytimes.com/2019/09/07/us/…

Just in case you haven't noticed, the Trump administration's stonewalling efforts are failing. We've already obtained several hundred pages of documents that have shed new light on the timing and implementation of the scheme to withhold military aid from Ukraine.

The files released tonight include emails sent by OMB Acting Director Russell Vought and Assoc Director for National Security Michael Duffey — two key players in the withholding of Ukraine aid — in on the morning of President Trump’s July 25 call with President Zelensky.
The emails show a flurry of activity in late June 2019 immediately after President Trump began asking questions about news reports that discussed military assistance to Ukraine.

We can see why Secretary Pompeo refused to release these documents to Congress: the paper trail connects him to Giuliani, showing a March 2019 call right before a call to Rep. Nunes.

You'll be happy to know that I wolfed down a cheeseburger and beer during the break.

It was good but the pace of consumption made it less than satisfying.

There will be a follow-up round required after this next hearing. Maybe I'll get a salad.
While we wait, Rep. Jim Himes just said on MSNBC that there is talk that one of the Intel Committee's deposed witnesses may be poised to amend their testimony.

If this is true, it would seem likely the witness would be Volker revising the record to match what he will say today.

On May 28, 2019, @RudyGiuliani's policy positions on Ukraine came up during a @StateDept Q&A with now-former Special Representative for #Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker, who was at Volodymyr Zelensky's inauguration a week earlier:
The ambassador's response begins with praise:

"We were very impressed with President Zelenskyy's stated commitment to reform and thoroughgoing reform in #Ukraine, fighting corruption, creating a Ukrainian leadership that serves the interests of the people of Ukraine."
But then:

"During the course of our meetings with President Zelenskyy, we also made clear he needs to pay close attention to his own ability to carry out those tasks, that he — the Ukrainian voters who voted for him, 74 percent of the voters, now have very high expectations."
