So big picture: we’re a week away from opening an impeachment trial of the President of the United States, and we’re still learning about new characters in the story at the heart of the charges.
I think most litigators I know would freak out if the facts of a high stakes case evolved this dramatically ten months before their trial date. Seven days.
We still need to know a) whether this happened in Kyiv the way it looks like it happened in the texts and b) what the president knew about it and when he knew it. What can the Senate do with it without that?

The lede of WaPo’s story gets at something I think is pretty key. The Parnas texts released last night suggest that the removal of Amb. Yovanovitch was what Lutsenko, the Ukranian prosecutor, was trading his concocted allegations against Biden for. washingtonpost.com/politics/ukrai…
The Trump administration’s special fury at Yovanovitch is sort of puzzling in isolation—this remote, retiring career professional. But if acting against her was part of a deal to get the evidence Trump thought would tip 2020 in his favor, it starts to make more sense.
Here Parnas sends Lutsenko a statement that’s at least worded to sound like a reassurance from the president, and he immediately responds with more Biden material.

These messages occur during the same period when Hyde is sending Parnas reports about Yovanovitch’s movements.

The House investigating committees have just sent out some additional ‘evidence’ apparently from Parnas’s devices that they’re transmitting to the Judiciary Committee.
