Lessons I learned from the battle over the Human Rights Act (thread)

We need to start right now. There are three urgent things.
First, we need to get organised to tell the stories of the thousands of successful Judicial Review cases which have improved the lives of people across the UK.
The stories must be told in a non-legalistic way. They must be easily accessible and available to anyone who wants to find them. This is how I did it for @EachOtherUk with the 50 human rights cases that changed Britain

eachother.org.uk/50-human-right…
By the time this becomes hard politics this needs to be available in a simple, easily accessible list for journalists and campaigners.

It's not enough to leave to lawyers to say 'umm... interesting question... well there was the case of x versus the queen which was important..."
This task costs money. Not sure what format or platform but you need to do it in an engaging and modern way.
The second thing that needs to be done is the story of why Judicial Review is so important needs to be boiled down to a single paragraph in simple, non-legalistic language which would explain to a member of the public what they would be *losing* if the government undermined it
And the third, which I imagine is the most likely thing to happen anyway, is an alliance of human rights and allied public sector organisations to sing from the same hym sheet.
As I said, this is all urgent. The government are accelerating their attack on Judicial Review and with such a large majority they will almost inevitably win the day unless there is a significant, well-funded mobilisation against it.
