Trump's ICE has already shown what little regard they have for undocumented refugees - they're keeping them in outdoor "dog pounds," unprotected from the elements, forcing them to sleep on dirt. They're packing them so thickly into cells migrants must stand on toilets to breathe.
They're sticking them in freezing "ice boxes," even when they're wet - babies too. They're taking away asthma inhalers & other life-saving meds. They're refusing adequate food & water. They're taking their kids & taunting them with never seeing them again.
Reminder - four kids THAT WE KNOW OF have died & many more adults. Media didn't report on one child's death until 8 months later because NO ONE TOLD THEM. How many more are there?
Trump is moving refugees into camps in the middle of the desert & onto military bases. Why does this matter? Because media & lawyers are forbidden to visit those facilities. HHS even prevented Congress from entering without giving notice weeks in advance.
You can't even fly drones over military bases so once refugees are housed there, we'll have no way of knowing what's going on.
I'm not saying Trump is definitely going to go as far as Hitler. But I can tell you he sees these people as animals & ICE treats them as such.

I can also tell you he's moving on a timetable much faster than Hitler. Stop pretending America is different somehow & it's utterly impossible anything horrific could happen here. Horrific things are already happening.
We already have people being prosecuted for the "crime" of providing water to dehydrated refugees. We already have the far-right using the language of de-humanization - calling refugees an "infestation" & defining them as non-human animals.
Hell, Trump's base is literally wearing Nazi swastikas & calling for a second Holocaust. I mean, take the hint, America - we're not in normal times. We're doing EXACTLY what good Germans did & looking away, pretending evil isn't standing right the fuck in front of us.
I don't know how this is happening. It feels like some deity pushed "replay" on a horrendous timeline. It's insane & feels impossible, which is exactly how it can happen again. No one knew the full extent of Hitler's atrocities until Hitler was dead & camps were liberated.
Did you know Hitler had a few "model" camps, where Jews were treated decently & allowed education & recreation? These were the places UN reps would visit to see how nicely he treated the Jews & how all those ugly rumors of genocide were "lugenpresse" or "lying press." Fake news.
The most telling indicator of Trump's utter hatred & lack of empathy for migrants is how he & HHS ripped their children from them, never intending to give them back at all. They didn't plan to reunite them - not ever. They acknowledged this. They don't see them as fellow humans.
One reason Trump is able to move faster than Hitler is he doesn't have to strip refugees of their rights first. Hitler had to pass law after law making Jews second-class citizens, taking away rights, then taking away their citizenship entirely. Migrants were never US citizens.

Now add Putin into the equation. Putin hates Western democracies. He hates how we (used to) tout human rights & accuse him of human-rights abuses. Putin is supporting far-right groups in democracies here & in Europe. He WANTS us to do something horrific.
We all know Putin is pulling Trump & GOP's strings. What better revenge on America & its self-righteous criticism of Russia for human rights abuses than to get America to commit its own? Putin would love to get Trump to do some seriously sickening shit & taint America forever.
You can write me off as paranoid & hyperbolic if you want. But it's not just me. Respectable historians & experts on authoritarianism are jumping up & down to point out the similarities between Hitler's fascist Third Reich & America right now. 
By the way, Trump & HHS & GOP have been sending out Nazi dog-whistles since before Trump was elected.
This is the most heinous - instead of a true number on missing migrant kids, they gave us neo-Nazi code.
