Sunday musings as I write an exec doc - It’s critical for those us building “way of life” tech to understand the human factors of our offering. For example, whatever you think of Kubernetes as a technology, it has a very powerful force working in its favor : Hope.
Hope to those with decades of Software experience of continuing to use software skills in a services world, and to those providing those services a way to attract those populations.
Hope to those looking gain employment of gaining transferable and well calibrated skills, and to those looking to employ of getting fungible talent.
Hope to those who don’t trust their vendors of always having an escape hatch.
Hope of gaining the camaraderie and respect of software luminaries because you wrote that legendary piece of code or put together someone’s else’s pieces in a way that the community appreciates.
And of course, Hope of being the next Google because you are seeding yourself with a flavor of their secret sauce.
This human factor is a invisible headwind we face in the #serverless Community. At our core we are about doing less, minimalism, trust, and mostly critically, change.
The payoff is amazing, but these are disruptive for an individual unless they have lived the need for it, or set aside their personal needs for their collective (e.g writing less code for faster product delivery).
I don’t have a definitive call for action. But I do know that helping customers get the #serverless advantage in going to be less and less about the tech, and more on recognizing these factors and adjusting for them. /end
