One more time for the people in the back:

Trump absolutely had to find a way to use this trial to boost his approval rating, because his 2020 chances right now are close to zero.

If Trump is acquitted but his approval rating stays the same or goes down, then he lost the trial.
If Trump is acquitted and your response is whining, crying, and “now he’s gonna magically win in 2020” fatalism, you’re the entire problem.

The only thing Trump has left going for him is your fatalism. Get over it, recognize this trial as a win for us, and get back to resisting!
Trump’s 2020 odds will not improve because an acquittal will “fire up his base.” They’re already voting for him anyway.

Trump will not be “emboldened” by an acquittal. He’ll just keep doing the same corrupt antics he’s always done. None of it has helped his 2020 odds one bit.
Trump and the GOP can’t magically make John Bolton disappear. If he doesn’t testify to the Senate, he’ll testify to the House, or he’ll go on a TV news show and “testify” that way. His book will be released on schedule. It will make GOP Senate look even worse for acquitting him.
This is just realism. If you’re so locked into a fatalist mindset that you can’t even process the above facts, or if you think any of the above realism sounds like “optimism,” then politics has broken your brain. Fatalists should take a break from politics and clear their head.
One of the most important things you can do heading into November is to silence the fatalists. Try to get them to realize the harm they’re doing by demotivating their own side. Short of that, shout the fatalists down. Their bullshit is toxic, contagious, and a threat to America.

After Trump is over, I'm going to open a school to teach my fellow liberals how politics actually works. How strategy works. How to win. How to know if you're winning or losing.

Liberals are correct on all the issues. But you have to understand politics to make a difference.
Lesson #1: Everything in politics is about leverage. You want to force someone on the other side to bend to your will? You figure out what they care about most, and you use it. 99% of the time, they care most about getting reelected and keeping their seat.
Lesson #2: Very few people in the highest reaches of politics are mustache twirling cartoon villains who are just looking for mischief. The corrupt politicians care about money, donors, etc, not about random acts of villainy. Stop thinking of them as cartoon characters.

Lamar Alexander is a no. There will be no witnesses. Who cares. This trial is a MAJOR LOSS for Trump because it won't boost his pathetic 2020 poll numbers. Bolton will do TV promos soon anyway.

The only damage here: the fatalists will waste two weeks crying instead of fighting.
After the fatalists spend the next two weeks crying and moping and telling the rest of us that Trump has won and the world is over, they'll exhaust themselves, and we'll get back to resisting. Trump's 2020 odds are worse than ever. But damn the fatalists for costing us two weeks.
Since the day impeachment started, we've all known he would be acquitted, and most of us have understood that it's not a victory for Trump. Don't let the doomsday pundits on TV psych you into suddenly believing this is somehow a loss for the resistance. It's a loss for Trump.

Looks like Lamar Alexander will be the deciding vote on witnesses. He can go whichever way he wants. Either Bolton will testify at the trial, or Bolton will soon spill his guts in some other equally high profile setting and we'll get to use it against the GOP Senators in 2020.
John Bolton has a book to promote. No book author ever turns down the chance to go on TV and promote their book. If not the Senate, then Bolton will "testify" on CNN.

And no, Trump can't just use a magic wand to block its release. That's not a thing. The book is happening.
As far as Lamar Alexander, who cares? Even with witnesses, it'll still be a sham acquittal. He's just voting whether Bolton will speak on TV now, or speak on TV later.

Sup folks I don’t really tweet all that much any more, and I certainly don’t tweet much that isn’t pretty jokey but this just hit me in a way I can’t ignore so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ get ready I guess?
I grew up the son of a youth pastor/head pastor in a (mostly) progressively theological household. I have a BA in Religious Studies and a M.Div. Benefitted from an amazing youth camp both as a youth and employee. Served as college and youth minister.
I stay as far away from church as I can. I rarely get as angry as I do as when I think about church in almost every capacity. I can’t unsee horrific people, attitudes, and beliefs from top to bottom, both in religious denomination institutions down to certain ministers.
