Lots of vox pops today of people being interviewed by journalists and “hilariously” getting the law wrong.

The reason they are confused is because journalism as an industry has for years spectacularly failed to challenge and correct the #FakeLaw lies those people have been fed.
Yes, it’s depressing to hear people parrot nonsense about “EU human rights” and “our law being made in Germany” - but you know who’s responsible for giving that nonsense airtime and not successfully challenging the politicians & media pushing it? Clue: it’s not the vox poppers.
Public legal education in our country has for decades been non-existent. It is a scandal that poses a serious danger to our national conversation, the state of our justice system and ultimately the rule of law.

Blame those who have deliberately tried to keep us in the dark.

This sort of nonsense was, I’m afraid to say, provoked by Keir Starmer’s attempts to curry favour by suggesting that he represented virtuous clients and causes.

The true virtue of the Bar, as he knows, is that we represent anybody, irrespective of the popularity of their cause.
Once you attempt to trade on the nobility of your clients, you are contributing to public misunderstanding of your role as a barrister.

We don’t choose the cases that we “believe in”. We are ethically bound to represent whoever asks us to look after their interests.
I prosecute whoever I’m asked to prosecute, because the state and victims of crime deserve to be properly represented in court.

I defend whoever I’m asked to defend, because everyone, no matter how unpopular or unpleasant, deserves to be properly represented.

You’d think that politicians who have been in the party of government for the last 10 years might offer us an apology for the way that their treatment of the criminal justice system - police, CPS, courts, legal aid, prisons and probation - has made us all demonstrably less safe.
Not a word of contrition or flicker of recognition of fault from those who have had a decade to fix the problems that are now apparently so clear and easily solved.

Liars and charlatans, all.
Anyway, I’m off to prosecute what our Home Secretary would call a counter-burglary offender.

This is a vital point, continually ignored by the Victims Commissioner. The primary driver behind the drop in prosecutions for sexual offences - like all offences - is that lack of police resources means suspects are being released under investigation (RUI’d) for *years*.
The statistics do not show that the CPS are failing to prosecute meritorious cases - they show a huge logjam as the system lacks the resources to investigate cases, and investigations drag on for years:
Look at the huge increase in the light blue, which represents “no outcome yet” - i.e. cases which haven’t been dropped or charged, but are in purgatory.

In fact, cases dropped or not pursued because of evidential difficulties *fell* significantly last year.

The first part of the episode is mainly about the gut-brain connection. The main message is that you need to eat good food (fiber, vegetables) to send good signals to your brain. This is good information that can help many people.
But the summary of the first part, as given by the presenter on this slide, has some errors that should have been edited out.
1. "Enteroception" appears to be a vague term that only occurs 3 times in Pubmed, so there is no widespread scientific support for it.
