Almost a year ago we sued HMRC for failing to assess Uber to - we believe - substantially in excess of £1bn of VAT. /1
After we sued it HMRC asked the High Court for permission to tell us what it then did about Uber's tax bill - permission the High Court gave. /2
Uber appealed and the Court of Appeal has now decided to hear - and expedited - Uber's appeal against the High Court decision. /3
Meanwhile Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber's Chief Executive, is, to our knowledge, briefing journalists on the size of Uber's VAT bill and his negotiations with HMRC to reduce it. /4
Those journalists know - and we know - the eye watering number involved. HMRC and Uber also know. /5
Wrong for the legal system to permit itself to used for so many months as a tool to help Uber to manage news flow to investors and maintain negotiations with HMRC. /ENDS
