Over the past three years, the DFRLab has published extensively on political disinformation online. Today, we are happy to announce the “Dichotomies of Disinformation,” a project made possible by @Jigsaw to codify the many #disinformation campaigns we have reported on.
The project can be found in its totality on the DFRLab’s GitHub page: github.com/DFRLab/Dichoto…
As part of @Jigsaw's first ever publication of #theCurrent, data from the Dichotomies of Disinformation has been incorporated in their data visualization: jigsaw.google.com/the-current/di…
Totaling over 150 variables, the Dichotomies of Disinformation takes a critical look at the anatomy of political #disinformation campaigns covered by the DFRLab. Top-line variables include: Target, Platform, Content, Method, Attribution, and Intent.
Comprised of 76 binary variables, 35 text descriptors, and 40 quantitative variables, this project expands upon existing efforts to codify #disinformation and employs the wealth of knowledge from the DFRLab's research, which is cited in 60 case studies.
The methodology was constructed iteratively, a process led by resident fellow @etbrooking in collaboration with DFRLab researchers @AlyssaKann and @maxbrizzuto. Cases were then coded in tandem, employing inter-coder reliability to ensure consistency.
At this time, the data is available for download on the DFRLab’s GitHub page in .csv and .xlsx formats, versions available .json and .R forthcoming. github.com/DFRLab/Dichoto…
