The OPCW just published details of their investigation into the leaked documents relating to the Douma chemical attack, read the details here opcw.org/media-centre/n…
The report refers to "two OPCW inspectors were identified as possibly being implicated in breaches of confidentiality", named in the report as A and B. "A" would appear to be Ian Henderson based on this description, which also confirms he wasn't a FFM member.
The OPCW states Ian Henderson ("A") "played a minor supporting role in the investigation of the Douma incident" and "did not have access to all of the information gathered by the FFM team"
Looks like Ian Henderson was a naughty boy, he conducted an engineering study without authorisation from the team leader, ignored instructions not to contact third parties, and misled professors at a university by claiming he was doing official OPCW work.
And it looks like he then "belatedly and through subterfuge" got written authorisation to work with the university. Not exactly a straight arrow, this guy.
Henderson also gave the professors "an important amount of OPCW confidential information classified as Highly Protected" on a USB stick, claiming it was open source information.
Henderson then showed it to a bunch of people he shouldn't have at the OPCW, adding to his continued misconduct.
Then as the cherry on the cake he denied distributing when he actually did, then tried to drop it off in archives that weren't intended to store the data in the first place. Remarkable behaviour.
And finally it ends up getting leaked to the Syria Propaganda Superfriends and he's pleased about it, despite the multiple violations of his obligations to the OPCW.
As for "B", he never visited the Douma site, and agreed on the final version of the interim Douma report that was then published.
"B" aka "Alex" left the OPCW in August 2018, prior to months more investigative work being done, and it just happens he turns out to be a fan of the Syrian Propaganda Superfriends
Sounds like "Alex" jumped on the conspiracy train.
And this is why those treating the Ian Henderson report seriously should never be listened to again.
Clearly "A and B" were disgruntled employees, whose claims were lapped up by those who want to attack the work of the OPCW, and those individuals should be ashamed of being complicit, but they definitely won't be.
And as we've been saying all along, attacking the OPCW over the interim report is absurd, as it ignores the months of work done afterwards prior to the publication of the final report.
Despite Ian Henderson's clearly appalling behaviour the OPCW has still shared it with the IIT to consider as part of their final report on Douma, so no cover up there, conspiracy theorists.
So congratulations to those "journalists" and "academics" who used a couple of disgruntled OPCW employees personal crusades to attack the work of an organisation investigating horrific war crimes, again I hope you're ashamed of yourself.
Bellingcat's @N_Waters89 is also doing a thread on the OPCW statement about Douma
