Details of @GLAN_Law and @MwatanaEn's evidence submitted to the UK government relating to Saudi air strikes in Yemen and UK arms exports to Saudi Arabia. Bellingcat will be submitting its own evidence with the help of @GLAN_Law later this month theguardian.com/world/2019/aug…
@GLAN_LAW @MwatanaEn The evidence submitted to @GLAN_Law is based on details gathered on the ground by @MwatanaEn, including images of bomb debris and craters, along with witness testimony. Bellingcat will compliment this by submitting our own open source investigations of Saudi air strikes in Yemen.
@GLAN_LAW @MwatanaEn At Bellingcat we've been working on a new methodology for open source investigation and the archiving of open source evidence that creates a high baseline for our investigations, and makes it easier to submit what we find and investigate to courts and other mechanism.
@GLAN_LAW @MwatanaEn Bellingcat's @N_Waters89 and @RawanSSA18 have been working incredibly hard on this project, and we're still hoping to find funding for what we consider incredibly important work, both for Yemen, and the use of open source investigation in legal proceedings.
@GLAN_LAW @MwatanaEn @N_Waters89 @RawanSSA18 Currently this work is being mostly funded from workshop income, so our hope is we'll find some funders who want to see the growth of open source investigation in justice and accountability, not just in Yemen, but everywhere that open source investigation can be applied.
@GLAN_LAW @MwatanaEn @N_Waters89 @RawanSSA18 I'm also hoping once we've got the new processes perfected we can deploy them to other conflicts internally at Bellingcat, and also train other organisations to implement it themselves, so we have a solid framework for the spread of open source investigation methodologies.
@GLAN_LAW @MwatanaEn @N_Waters89 @RawanSSA18 We're also working on creating an archiving system that will be deployable to multiple organisations but all searchable from one interface, with the organisations having full control of what information is viewable.
@GLAN_LAW @MwatanaEn @N_Waters89 @RawanSSA18 This aims to address the issue of having lots of organisations gathering vast amounts of data and other organisations who want to work with that data being able to access it without having to write 20 different requests in 20 different formats every time they need something.
