Hey! Now that this is official for sale, here's a couple notes re: this thing and the non-profit I run, @GameHistoryOrg

1. There is no way we (or the game museums) are going to afford this

2. Even if we could, we could do way more important preservation work with that money
This thing is cool but ultimately at the end of the day, it's just something to put on a pedestal and gawk at. Meanwhile over here we've got terabytes of important data stuck on rotting media, thousands of developers with stuff in their garage we should be traveling to, etc.
Good question! But impossible to answer because in the world of video games there hasn't been an item of this scale available for sale before. For other museums, sure, plenty of precedent for very rich people gifting expensive pieces of history.
