Just a reminder that fascism and authoritarianism are fronts for insecure, terrified men who need to clothe themselves in symbols of power and murderous masculinity lest the world realize how truly insecure and terrified they are.
Trumpism is so intertwined with masculine insecurity and the modern crisis with white men that there’s no understanding either without the other. It’s about insecure men trying desperately to convince themselves and the world that they’re strong and unflappable at any cost.
Trumpism is as much a mental health crisis as it is a political and societal crisis. A large swathe of Americans desperately need to re-evaluate their privilege and identities, but Trump, as a figurehead, gives them permission to never change and dive deeper into their identity.
