The temple has some rare rituals.For ulsavam two temporary dhwajas are installed in a single pit. It is a must that kodiyettam is performed only after staging chakyarkoothu by Vallachira Chakyar.
The present tantri belongs to the Netumballi Tarananelloor mana, who also have tantram at the famous Padmanabhaswamy temple, Thiruvananthapuram.
There is a peculiar vazhipadu by name "Parvathymangalyam" for mangalya siddhi. It is the offering of one "itangazhi" of boiled raw rice to the lords. Poojas start for Lord Siva up to the peetha pooja and then change over to those for Lord Vishnu.

Who the Gangas of Talakadu are, where they came from, no one knows. Gangas claimed descent from Ikshvaku-kula, are of Kanva Gotra and called themselves as Jahnaviyas in their inscriptions. Some conjecture they came from the North, some, a shoot-off of Andhra Ikshvakus and some,
