Interesting op-ed in @WSJ exploring U.S. religious change "Thank God, American Churches Are Dying"

These grafs in particular caught my eye because there is a lot wrong here.
@WSJ 1) Having children and getting married does not inevitably lead to increased religious engagement. In fact, most secular people now have secular spouses.

@WSJ 2) Young people are being raised in less religious households and this religious apathy/disinterest is carrying over into adulthood. Of those who actually leave, most of them do so before they finish high school.

@WSJ This is not to say things won't change. And there is some evidence that the growth of the "nones" is slowing, but for now we're still seeing a continued rise in nonreligious identity.

1. Life is about change. We change jobs, school, how we look, teachers, neighborhood and so on. God is always doing new things in your life, and if you don't constantly adjust, you might be praying about something God has already done. #Change #PreparingForYourNextSeason
2. For God to move you from season to season, you will have to go through change. All through the Bible from the earliest days of Abraham, you will discover that the people that enjoyed God's blessings were the ones that opened their heart to change.
3. Many times we are not even ready for the answers to the type of requests we make from God. Sometimes when we receive the answers to our prayers, we shut down. And that's because God is pushing us to get out of our comfort zone.

Legit question @esquire: would a puff piece about a non-white or non-straight male also have that same "An American Boy" title? If not, check your bias and hire more diverse staff @Poynter @columbiajourn @NiemanLab

Here's the state of play on health care.

The GOP failed to deliver on its longstanding promise to repeal Obamacare due to John McCain's dramatic last minute thumbs down.

But they succeeded in repealing its corrupt beating heart -- the individual mandate -- in tax reform.
That made Obamacare voluntary. But there was a problem. There were very few non-Obamacare plans available, because a 2016 Obama regulation had deliberately crippled them.
That 2016 Obama regulation slashed the duration of Obamacare-exempt so-called "short-term, limited duration plans" from one year to three months and banned them from being renewable.

Interesting op-ed by @DavidAFrench on the Infowars banning by platforms in today's @nytimes . While we agree on the big picture I think he makes a few leaps that aren't reflective of what platforms have been doing or still try to do with hate speech or the role the 1A 1/
(1) He says: "Unlike 'hate speech,' libel and slander have legal meanings." but so what? That libel & slander have legal meanings doesn't mean that they're any easier to adjudicate or any less prone to haphazard exception, see e.g. public figure and newsworthiness doctrines 2/
(2) ". . if companies like Facebook are eager to navigate speech controversies in good faith, they would do well to learn from the centuries of legal developments in American law." THEY HAVE. Literally all these policies-ESPECIALLY at Facebook-were put in place by Americans 3/
