103 years after @MadamCJWalker joined Harlem leaders to deliver this petition to the White House in response to the 1917 East St. Louis massacre, the House passes an #AntiLynchingBill. Thanks to the #SelfMadeNetflix team for insisting the lynching theme be included. Watch on 3/20
@MadamCJWalker nyti.ms/3a2wmCC From the NYT: "Since at least 1900, [the Congress] has tried to pass a law making lynching a federal crime. The bills were consistently blocked, shelved or ignored...But on Wed., a measure to add lynching to the US Criminal Code passed in the House."
@MadamCJWalker Thank you to @Jsbarrois & @Elle2Tha for grasping the importance of anti-lynching in Madam Walker's political activism. No spoiler alerts! But @DeManeDavis was masterful at directing the very emotional scene w/ @octaviaspencer & @KevinTCarroll when the theme appears in episode 4.
