I am scanning the bills filed in the Ok Legislature and I just want you to know it is increasingly apparent that our legislators are *pretty upset* that the voters continue to utilize initiative petitions to change OK laws. #okleg
So far there have been 4 Senate Joint Resolutions and 2 House Joint Resolutions filed which in some form or fashion ask the Secretary of State to add to the next ballot a referendum which will significantly increase the number of signatures required to get on the ballot.
Some of them seek to make sure there is equal representation from all congressional districts, some of them solely want to increase the number of signatures required, and one of them wants the same percentage of signatures from each county.

My former boss—Robert S. Taylor, who served as Acting General Counsel at Department of Defense—with a strong warning to federal employees across departments and agencies.

Two federal laws that could punish #ElectionInterference.

2. Two laws — Hatch Act and Antideficiency Act — can impose stiff penalties (including prison time) for federal employees who illegally undermine the election.

The latter could apply to federal actions that use funds that have not been appropriated by Congress for that purpose.
3. "Every federal employee should assume that if he or she carries out an activity intended to impair or impede the election... their conduct will be judged by people deeply upset over the effort to entrench a President viewed as a threat to the very foundations of our democracy"

We asked our members about their experiences with vote by mail. Here are a few of their responses:

#ProtectTheVote

(1/5)
"I've voted by mail the past 5 years because I work in a hospital and I can't always sneak away long enough to go in person. I LOVE it! It makes it so I can research the candidates and/or actions with the ballot in front of me." — Becca
“I am a visually impaired Arizona resident who has used mail-in ballots for years. Since I live in a town without public transportation, a mail-in ballot is sometimes the only way I can vote. I love being able to research everything on the ballot before mailing it in.” — Renee

Right now, Congress is negotiating over the next #COVID19 stimulus package, and it must include funding for protecting the #2020Election. We can’t let the pandemic put our right to vote in November at risk. #ProtectTheVote brennancenter.org/our-work/polic…
State and local election officials tell us they need the funding now or else they won’t be ready to carry out a safe, fair, and secure #2020Election in pandemic conditions. #ProtectTheVote brennancenter.org/our-work/resea…
We recommend:
✔️expanding vote-by-mail options
✔️expanding online voter registration
✔️making in-person voting safe
Congress must fund these efforts immediately to protect every vote in #Election2020, especially in marginalized communities. #ProtectTheVote

This year, Americans like you can play a vital role in the fight to #ProtectTheVote by asking your state and local election officials if they are following the steps below! bit.ly/2yuLScq
Step 1: If your jurisdiction uses electronic voting machines, ask if local officials provide each polling site with enough emergency paper ballots for 2-3 hours of peak voting in case of machine malfunctions or failures.
Step 2: If your jurisdiction uses electronic pollbooks to check voters in, ask whether local election officials keep paper backup of electronic pollbooks in the polling place.

TWEET THREAD (1/8) 📢 OUR NEW RESEARCH on voter purges — when election officials remove names from voter registration lists — has alarming findings, with major implications for the integrity of our #democracy: bit.ly/2O3bCAw
(2/8) Almost 4 million more names were purged between 2014 and 2016 than between 2006 and 2008 — 33% growth, much higher than the growth in eligible voters and in the larger population.
(3/8) Purge rates have increased more in states that, due to their history of #racialdiscrimination, were previously subject to federal "preclearance," a practice that ended with the 2013 #SCOTUS decision Shelby County v. Holder.
