1. #Redbaiting: My dad was essentially redbaited by Madame Madame Chiang Kai-shek who had him temporarily declared PNG in 1947. It happened after he published @AP wire report from a Red Army/KMT US internee release & Zhou Enlaii published a White Paper praising my dad's honesty.
2. When I studied Chinese starting in 1984, US had just started to teach reading and writing in universities. My professor had to write his own texts to teach writing. He was an Oxford educated Taiwanese PHd linguist. I showed him my dad's card and he said his Chinese name showed
3. someone had thought very highly of him. Roughly translates to a phonetic for "Jack" (that sounds nothing like it) followed by "Grand Diligence." 
4. He lived for Democratic Party politics and union rights. My mother told me how he tried organize the day-laborers in Shanghai in the late 40's. He bequeathed to me two great loves: Baseball and politics. and our home was like tiny Chinese museum. 😎
