IN THE COURSE OF LIFE'S PURSUITS, MAY WE FIND TIME TO LIVE

The nature of life's pursuits is that we are daily on the grind. Constantly hurtling at break neck speed in search of our daily sustenance & lasting financial security. This comes at a price.

We wake up very early to head out & return late. Days go by. Months. Years. We wake up, pursue our hustle, juggle a number of things in the course of the day. Night comes, we head home. Sometimes in heavy traffic. We get home knackered. Tomorrow, we rinse & repeat.

Our health is deteriorating. We barely have time for our families. We lose friends we can't honour basic acts of friendship with. We don't even have time for ourselves. We chase. We hustle. We work hard. Very hard. Everyday. Nonstop. Days go by. Weeks. Months. Years.

God forbid anything happens to us. The world readjusts & recalibrates. Replacements are found before we are cold. Our families are left shattered. Or coldly move on in some cases. So we were replaceable afterall! I thought nothing could happen if we were not there. Wow.

Perhaps we need to attend funerals more regularly. To see that those we laboured for may not be as shattered as we would presume they would be. To hear bants, laughter & merriment at our wake. Why are you people laughing? Can't you see I'm not with you anymore?

In the course of life's pursuits, find time for YOURSELF. Take that break. Take that day off. Take a leisure stroll in the evening. Go to that resort you've looked up a million times. Honour your pledge to your friends to follow them on their next outing.

You're staff of a company, the day you are no more, they'll be fine. You're an entrepreneur, you cannot be reached, they'll wait for you. Those deadlines are not always deadlines. Heavens will not fall. Everyone will be fine. This I assure you.

You cannot even play with your children when you're home. They really either asleep when you return or you shoo them away so you can concentrate & finish that report or that order that must go out tomorrow or that job that only you knows how to do. Allegedly.

When last did you catch 8 hrs of sleep? You believe the aspire to perspire trope that billionaires don't sleep beyond 3 hours? Do you have the same health system & support that they do? If you collapse, how soon if at all can ambulance get to you? Is there oxygen in the hospital?

While we're at it, when last did you go for check up? You're good? God forbid? You're covered by the blood of Jesus?

Dear friend, don't concentrate too much on the destination which is financial security & miss out on the thrills of the journey. That destination is actually elusive as there is no known address or number. So why do you want to miss out on all the fun along the journey?

Whatever you do, in the course of your life's pursuits, make out time to pause & breathe. Live a little. Laugh a lot. Hug your loved ones. Fall in love. Make memories. Go on vacations. Visit friends. Call your parents. Go to your kid's school activity. LIVE FFS.

We always find time for what's important. If you make it important, you'll find time for it.

The world is brutal. We must look out for ourselves.

May we be able to afford to live.
