@liz_franczak Many of the Sanders supporters we know in real life ARE civil. Why do online supporters think hardcore bullying tactics are the way to go?
(Bullying is NOT the same as occasional strong language by those not in power. Bullying = the “alpha game” and steamroller tactics of POWER.)
@liz_franczak When you use “online gamer banter” at me, you seem to come from a place of power rather than a place of appeal-to-justice on behalf of those with less power. “Get on the bus or we’ll run right over you.” Dominance games; “Leadership Principle”—as per the FAR RIGHT playbook.
@liz_franczak Or the authoritarian left of the 1930s and ‘40s. Or the “macho left” of the ‘60s. When that’s what I hear...
whatever you’re selling, I don’t want any.
Who IS this kind of tactic meant to attract? Gamergaters? “Beta wolves” who just want to join whichever team seems “strongest”?
@liz_franczak As Occupy Wall Street and other recent movements demonstrate, many people—especially younger progressives—want a different KIND of progressive politics. Not just business as usual; not just a change in “WHO rules”. Civility and consensus as aspects of strength, not weakness.
@liz_franczak Read some damn Gandhi.
Or MLK.
Or Riane Eisler.
Or Martin Buber.
Or Rebecca Traister.
Or Rebecca Solnit.

🛑 whitesplaining.
🛑 mansplaining.
🛑 straightsplaining.

And NO; recruiting a few token women/POC/🏳️‍🌈/etc. to talk your talk is NOT intersectionality—and it fools no one.
@liz_franczak We don’t just want a piece of the pie;
we want a different KIND of pie.
